Barbarus seemingly had a similar history as his Earth-616counterpart. He was among those native to the Savage Land assembled by Magneto that he experimented on and gave powers to. The group became known as the Savage Land Mutates.

The Savage Land Mutates were taken over by Tyrax, who used them to recreate and prefect Magneto's equipment as well as guard Arcadia. Once the Mutagenic Machine was completed, Tyrax used it on dinosaurs to create Dinosauroids. Barbarus was one of the mutates that confronted and was defeated by Badrock when he arrived in the Savage Land. Badrock and his allies ultimately defeated the Savage Land Mutates and reverted the Dinosauroids. During the battle; however, Tyrax fled. Afterwards, Kar-Zar exiled the Savage Land Mutates.[1]
