History

A vagabond living in the streets of New York City, Bart Buckle looked for shelter in a purportedly abandoned Lifelike Manikin Factory. He discovered that the building was being secretly used as a base of operation by fugitive crimelord Fu Manchu and his minions of the Si Fan gang. They captured Buckle and mutagenically altered him in an unproved process that combined Buckle's DNA with that of an alligator. Buckle was then brainwashed to become a minion of Fu.

Having adopted the name "Gator", Buckle was sent on a mission. Fu had used kidnapped genius Cameron Seaver to build five so-called Spirit Bombs that, at detonation, would open a portal to the extradimensional hell-like Nether Realm, with nearby people being absorbed to be tormented. Fu prepared one bomb to be hidden in the sewers near the United Nations Headquarters in New York City so that international diplomats would be to all effects obliterated. Fu entrusted this bomb to Gator for its protection, convincing Gator that the bomb was a gator egg that, when hatched, would turn everyone in the city in alligator-like beings like Gator himself - something that Gator would have wanted. With six alligators helping him, Gator remained underground between 1st and 42nd Streets, where the building would be affected.

However, several superheroes who opposed Fu's plan rescued Seaver, who in turn revealed Fu's plan and told the heroes where the bombs were hiding. The heroes entered the sewer to get the bomb, apparently unaware of the bomb's guardian. Quickly understanding that these intruders were a threat to his "egg", Gator confronted them. Gator was, however, defeated.[1]

Attributes

Powers

  • Body Armor: Besides being extraordinarily tough on his own, Gator was protected from physical attacks by his scaly skin.[1]
  • Reptile control: Gator could communicate with and control alligators. His power potentially allowed him to control other species of reptiles. He once used six alligators to help him protect his assumed "egg".[1]
  • Tail: Gator had a long tail that he could use in melee combat.[1]

Weaknesses

Gator's intelligence was sub-par and he was easily tricked. He had been intensively brainwashed by Fu Manchu.[1]

Paraphernalia

Equipment

At one point, Fu Manchu assigned Gator to protect one of his Spirit Bombs.[1]

Trivia

  • Gator appears in the RPG adventure Night Life, where the player characters (who are not fixed) are free to explore the environment. This article assumes exhaustive completion of the plot. The players may succeed in the adventure even without ever meeting Gator.
Gator's Sewer Lair from Night Life 001

    Gator's sewer lair.

  • The game includes a so-called map (more like a blueprint) of Gator's sewer lair, with the text explaining that the refuse pile contains the bomb.
