History
Little is known about Bashenga, only that, thousands of years ago, Bashenga was leader of the Golden Tribe, he became the first leader of a new nation known as Wakanda when he united five African tribes to keep them from warring over the seemingly-mystical metal, Vibranium, which had crashed on Earth as a meteorite and assimilated into the environment in various manifestations. One such manifestation was the Heart-Shaped Herb, which Bashenga consumed to gain the powers which would allow him to unite the tribes. He was chosen by the panther goddess Bast to be the first king of Wakanda and its first defender, the Black Panther, a legacy which would be carried on through Wakandan history.[1]
