History

The Battle-Axis were a Nazi super human team, gathered by the American scientist James Bradley (a.k.a. Doctor Death), mostly composed of former American superheroes who liked the Third Reich for various reasons:

  • Spider Queen started hating Americans when they allied with the USSR, because Russians had previously killed her husband.
  • Strong Man liked how easily Nazis won against France and the UK and he decided to join them.
  • Human Meteor, being Irish, hated the UK and so joined the enemies.
  • Volton was an android created by Doctor Death himself.
  • The Polish Jewish Golem joined the Reich because Doctor Death threatened to kill his brother.
  • The alien Vision was forced to join because Doctor Death blocked his way to return his world.

Alongside with the Nazi Sky Shark, Doctor Death and his Battle-Axis managed to achieve Hitler's plan to force the US to quit the war, so that the UK would have surrendered and the whole Nazi forces would have attacked the USSR.

Their first step was to come to the US from Germany, so they travelled via a submarine, but once close to New York City, Captain America, Human Torch and Namor caught them, but they were easily defeated (even if not captured) by those unknown enemies. Later, the Nazi team was able to capture Whizzer, but his girlfriend Miss America escaped to warn the other heroes. After the team met with Sky Shark, they left New York to their next destination: Los Angeles.

There Doctor Death "enlisted" Jacob Goldstein forcing his transformation into the Golem and with his help was able to add the Human Torch to his "collection". Meanwhile, a squad attacked a university where scientists were doing research to help the US's efforts in WWII, there they tried to steal the Oscillatron, but Captain America, Miss America and the Silver Scorpion prevented that, even if they couldn't stop the Nazis from destroying the building.

While in his secret headquarters, Doctor Death explained to the two captured heroes that they were being kept alive only to be studied because of their powers> In addition to that, Death revealed he was the co-creator of the Human Torch with Doctor Horton. Then he explained his plan to use his version of the oscillatron to cause an earthquake that would have destroyed a whole part of the country, forcing Americans to focus on that problem instead of supporting German's enemies. Shortly after, Captain America, Namor and other heroes attacked them and nearly defeated them, but Doctor Death used one of the machines in that laboratory to summon the Vision from his dimension, convincing him to join them and launch him against the Invaders. Eventually, the whole team was imprisoned.

The Oscillatron was almost ready to work, when Doctor Death revealed the real key of his plan was to cause the emission of the tons of lethal gases stocked in an underground place nearby. Meanwhile, Volton had been left alone with the Invaders, who made him to realize he wasn't human; a furious Volton destroyed Cap's cage and the hero freed the rest of the team. Together, they attacked the Battle Axis just a moment before Doctor Death turned the Oscillator on and that time there was nothing the Nazis could do to stop the heroes' charge, the Invaders were helped by the Golem too, after Sky Shark killed his brother when he rebelled against the Axis; however, Bradley was finally able to activate the machine, but he was killed by a vengeful Volton. In a final attempt to stop the Oscillator, Namor flew against that, destroying it... but the threat didn't end, as a little quantity of gas had freed and risked to kill everyone in there; however Vision saw in those fumes a way to open a portal to his homeworld and he did that, claiming he felt ashamed for having helped Nazis.

After that battle, Battle-Axis disbands. [1]
