Yes, I speak for the coral. I speak for all creatures of the sea too long denied a... *kreeek*...voice. But do not dare say... That I walk like a Man.

Beast King[source]

History

The Beast King, or King in Coral, was a humanoid sentient and mobile piece of coral.[2]

After Namor abdicated from the throne of Atlantis and surrendered to custody of the surface-dwellers, seven parties emerged as pretenders to the throne of Atlantis: The Scientists Supreme of Old Atlantis, the Abbot and the Octomonks, King Kailani of the Secret Seas, the Lord of Orphans, King Attuma of the Skarka, and Snake-worshiping Lemurians, and the King in Coral,[5] the Beast King, who unified Faceless Ones, Seaweed Men, Elder Whales and all the creatures of the oceans to oppose boh Man and Atlantis.[2] Amidst the War of Seven Kings, Atlantis was abandoned, and Lemuria ended up in ruins.[5]

As King Kailani captured Namor at Hellfall Deep after he had bested King Attuma and decimated his army, octopuses serving as Octo-Shackles for Kailani's forces but in fact part of the Beast King's forces spewed ink clouds to cover the approach of a Seaweed Man sent to attack the warriors of the Secret Seas and fetch Namor. The Seaweed Man was felled by Kailani, but his decapitated head announced the arrival of the Elder, an Elder Whale who swallowed Namor to carry him to the depths.[1] The Elder past through tentacles and Krakens, regurgitating Namor at the Undershore, on the War Reef at the feet of the Beast King.

The Beast King exposed his own motives to Namor who witnessed in the army of the War Reef a threat that could end Atlantis. As Orka and his crew were hunting an Elder Whale to provide sustenance to the people, its war cries drew other Elder Whales to war. Namor tried to stop the hunting but when realizing he was fighting starving Atlanteans, turned against the Elder Whales to protect them and break the fight. As Namor dispatched an Elder Whale with a punch, he was opposed to the Beast King, whom he promptly decapitated with another blow.[2]

After Namor met with the Orphan King in the royal palace of the ruins of Atlantis, the Orphan King summoned all of the claimants for a final battle, including the Beast King and his army of Seaweed Men and Elder Whales.[3]

Notes

  • The Beast King Name is unrevealed. So far he has been described as the "King in Coral" only by an enemy (Attuma), and in the solicit for Namor (Vol. 2) #4 (at the end of Namor (Vol. 2) #3). Meanwhile the "Beast King" has been used in-universe both by his enemies[1] and himself.[2]
