History

When the King in Black Eddie Brock fell to Limbo in his mentally unstable Bedlam incarnation, the non-linear flowing of time in the realm made it possible for him to end the reign of Darkoth. The clash between the two kings caused time to split so two outcomes of the fight could be realized. In one outcome, Bedlam killed Darkoth and returned to the Garden of Time,[4] continuing the time-loop that eventually led him to become Meridius.[5] In the other, Darkoth used the Soulsword to cut Bedlam down and expel Eddie's codex from the symbiote matter it was inhabiting. A new symbiote was born at the final moments of that second outcome, its consciousness taking form from the residue of Eddie's rage and power while the forcefully discarded symbiote mass became its body. The newborn symbiote promptly bonded to Darkoth and seized control of him.[4]

Accidentally unleashed from Limbo by Loki, the symbiote-controlled Darkoth attacked Asgard and was opposed by Loki, All-Father Thor, Lady Sif,[3] and Eddie Brock (actually a disguised Meridius impersonating his past self).[2] Resisting Brock's attempts to use his King in Black powers to control it, Bedlam's "child" quickly discovered it could manipulate the Promethium bonded to Darkoth's skeleton and used it to create a crimson replica of Mjolnir called Hellnir.[3] Proving too powerful for Thor or Brock to defeat on their own, the symbiote saw its opponents bond with each other through force of circumstance, becoming "Thornom". With Loki's help, the duo managed to injure the symbiote enough that it used its own King in Black powers to project its consciousness through time to escape, leaving its constituent matter behind. The Promethium-infused goop left by the child-symbiote later formed a new symbiote that bonded with Donald Blake.[2]
