History
Bel-Dann was one of the finest Kree warriors and while a colonel in the Imperial Kree Army, was chosen to represent the Kree Empire at the trial of the Phoenix along with her human host Jean Grey. Charles Xavier however demanded a duel to decide her fate, but Bel-Dann objected since it wasn't what the Kree agreed to. The Shi'ar empress Lilandra decided to consult the Supreme Intelligence and R'Klll, the leaders of the Kree and the Skrull empires respectively. Both accepted it as long as it was made sure the X-Men lost. For this purpose, they assigned both Bel-Dann and Raksor to observe together, much to the latter's chagrin.[2][3]
When the X-Men were teleported to the Blue Area of the Moon for their fight against the Imperial Guard, Raksor impersonated Storm and tried to strangle Wolverine, but was stopped. Bel-Dann however saved the Skrull observer and insulted him for letting his life be endangered, and stated that he would be dead without him. Raksor became incensed and proceeded to attack him,[2] leading to a battle that continued for months in the bowels of the ruins of the Blue City as they were too evenly matched. They were stopped by Uatu the Watcher who showed them a message sent by their leaders, who stated that the latest phase of the Kree-Skrull War had exhausted both the empires. As a result they had agreed to determine the victorious empire through a duel between Bel-Dann and Raksor, to which both warriors agreed.[3]
Uatu was chosen as the judge of the battle. Unknown to both warriors, the city of Attilan had been established by the Inhumans on the edge of the Blue City, while they had been busy fighting. During the wedding day of king Black Bolt and Medusa attended by the Fantastic Four, the warriors resumed their combat and were now outfitted with powerful weapons. Their fight beneath the Blue City destabilized Attilan's foundations, causing blue flames to erupt and making the House of Agon as well as the Fantastic Four investigate. Bel-Dann upon spotting them attacked them using his all-terrain survival suit, but it was damaged by Karnak. Human Torch unleashed the giant blue flame he had absorbed on Bel-Dann's armor before he could attack Karnak and he fled through an access hatch.
Retreating back to Attilan, Reed Richards planned out how to best deal with Raksor and Bel-Dann, both of whom they had separately fought, and got Uatu to cooperate with him. As Bel-Dann and Raksor engaged in combat, they neared the nuclear power plant of Attilan and inflicted heavy casualties on the Inhumans who tried to stop them, but were eventually forced to withdraw and confronted by the House of Avon as well as the Fantastic Four. As the two warriors started losing, they realized their only hope lay in an alliance. The Terrans pretended to lose and Uatu appeared afterwards, declaring both won by working together, which was the best solution for their empires. As he banished them both to their home, he told them to inform their empires about what happened.[3]
Bel-Dann was later promoted to the rank of a general and became the leader of the Kree Peace Battalion under the Shi'ar Empire and their stated mission was to prevent Kree from getting involved in another conflict after the devastating conflict in which the Sh'iar deployed a Nega-Bomb in Hala's solar system. Bel-Dann was one of the few survivors and later manipulated Genis-Vell, known as the hero Legacy, into helping him restore the conquered Kree empire. He made him believe that a bunch of Kree rebels were going to set off a mini Nega-Bomb on a Shi'ar shipping outpost and wreck chances of peace, but he could stop it with his Nega-Bands. Legacy went to the Shi'ar ship Link 313 as directed by him but failed in disarming the Nega-Bomb, which Glib Arkanian found was a set-up.[1][4]
Bel-Dann was assisted in implicating Genis by the rogue Shi'ar faction called Crystal Claws led by Eric the Red, who wanted to foment chaos throughout the Shi'ar Empire and replace Lilandra with emperor D'Ken's son Adam-X. During his fight with Adam, Legacy released him from Eric's mind-control and together the two found the truth.[5] The Kree Resistance Front had refused to cooperate with the Peace Battalion since it wanted to restore the old militaristic ways. Bel-Dann later raided Glib's Grog & Grub and demanded to know where Genis was. He and his associates were however forced to disarm themselves by Glib, whom he promised a reward for information on Legacy. Legacy himself attacked them later and subdued them, before making Bel-Dann tell where their leader Zey-Rogg was.[6]
After the restoration of the Kree empire, General Bel-Dann again started serving it, eventually being made its intelligence agent. He reconciled with his old enemy Raksor and struck a friendship, the two escaped to Earth during the numerous upheavals going on in their empires and at unknown point of time, shifted his allegiance to the Kree Imperium. As the two tried to find a way to unite their races, a secretive Kree/Skrull alliance was created after the Skrulls and the Imperium grew tired of war. Bel-Dann and Raksor were deployed to persuade Teddy Altman into becoming emperor of both.[1][7] Their mission however was hastened with increasing attacks of the Cotati on their two empires and they contacted Teddy at a gay bar where they told him everything. The Children of Lost Tarnax, Skrull zealots opposed to a half-breed emperor, attacked them there, but surrendered upon seeing Teddy wielding the Excelsior.[8]
Upon suspecting that the Cotati, who wanted to prevent the Kree and Skrulls from uniting, were coming for him, Bel-Dann left a message for Raksor using a hexadecimal code which they had used to communicate. He was strangled to death by his own potted plant and his body was found by the Masked Raider, who helped the other heroes in discovering it. Reed Richards discovered who he was and cracked his code which was a message meaning "beware the trees", also guessing who his murderer was. When he alomng with some other heroes confronted Raksor, the Skrull told them that he didn't murder him but was his ally, and the codes he left were meant for him. Upon learning what Bel-Dann had said, he realized it was too late and was himself killed by the Cotati. Their mission however was successful as Teddy agreed to become the emperor.[7][9]
Both Raksor and Bel-Dann wanted their ashes to be spread together in the tunnels of the Blue City on the Moon, where they had fought each other for months in past. After the defeat of the Empyre of the Cotati at the hands of the Kree/Skull alliance and the heroes of Earth, Captain Marvel and Reed Richards honored their wish.[10]Attributes
