If history happened as intended, Ben Grimm would have become a super hero after being exposed to cosmic rays and gaining super-powers in a space flight alongside Reed Richards, Sue Storm, and Johnny Storm.
Because of this, Ben and the other explorers were targeted by the Maker, an extra-dimensional villain who invaded reality to rewrite history to his whim. He caused the foursome's space flight to be delayed by hours, missing the cosmic ray storm and robbing them of their fates. At some point afterward,[1] Ben killed himself by throwing himself into a crevice as he was unable to live with the death of Johnny and being sentenced for life due to the laws he broke.[2]
