Ben Urich was a reporter working for the Daily Bugle. When Mr. Sinister began seizing control of Krakoa and implementing his plans for world domination, Ben was one of the first to discover something was amiss. He learned that the artificial X-Genes that the mutants had offered to humanity as a way of extending the Resurrection Protocols were in fact a Trojan horse, creating a para-personality that could override the original at any time. Realizing that the mutants were conquering the world, Ben sprung into action.
After getting his hands on an X-Gene test, he approached his boss J. Jonah Jameson. When Jameson passed the test, Urich told him all he had learned. To his horror, Jameson revealed that he too had been compromised, and that the test was a fake released by the Sinisters to weed out anyone who might have learned the truth. A cadre of Sinister-compromised humans seized Ben.[1]
