Reprint of the 2nd story from
Black Rider #26
(originally printed as Gambler's Folly)
After learning that gambling house owner Travers has been swindling people out of their money, the Black Rider bursts into his gambling hall with guns blazing, recovering the stolen money and returning it to the poor people who were swindled from it. The Black Rider gives Travers a week to clear out of town or die. This earning Travers' ire, who decides instead to try and eliminate the masked hero.

The next day, Dr. Matthew Masters wakes up and rides into town and learns from the locals that Travers has hired a number of gunslingers to eliminate the Black Rider. Realizing that this poses a danger to the innocent people in town, Masters pays a personal visit and pleads to the gambler not to start his war in Leadville as it would lead to innocent people being wounded, however Travers refuses to listen and tells Masters to leave.

As the last of the gunslingers arrive, they decide to try and force the Black Rider out of hiding by causing a ruckus in town, even wrecking Travers' gambling hall in the process. The Black Rider then arrives and guns down all the outlaws, thankfully before anyone can get hurt. Charging toward Travers' gambling hall on his horse Satan, the Black Rider crashes through the front door. Travers begs for his life, and the Black Rider then kicks the defeated gambler out into the street and forces him to crawl out of town on his hands and knees with Satan following behind giving him a good nip in the rear should he go too slow.

The following day, Matthew Masters is happy to see that the gambling hall is now being converted into a new town auditorium.

After being framed for cattle rustling, Aloysius Kare is order by sheriff of Cayuse County and ordered never to come back, all according to the plan Ben Hobson the real mastermind of the rustling who wanted Kare out of the way to prevent his interference when they move the cattle out of the area. To reinforce this matter, Hobson presses the sheriff -- whom people think is too old for his job -- to keep him focused on keeping Kare out of town, despite the protests of his daughter Pat.

At the his Circle-X ranch, the sheriff gathers a posse to go out and look to make sure that Aloysius Kare is no longer in the area. Unaware to them, Kare is watching from a nearby hill and notes that Hobson and his associate Blaine are not among the men out looking for him. Kare then changes into the Apache Kid just as a gang of masked men storm the Circle-X to steal the cattle there. The Kid rushes in, taking down their leader and using Nightwind to route the stampeding cattle while the rest of the gang gets away.

The Apache Kid then carries the leader of the gang to the sheriff and his posse and unmasks him as Bob Hobson. However Hobson tries to convince the sheriff that the Apache Kid is responsible for rustling the cattle and is in league with Aloysius Kare. With no way to prove either story, he is forced to let Bob go. However when Pat arrives and confirms the Apache Kid's story, the sheriff orders his men to go after him. The Apache Kid gets the lead and changes into Aloysius Kare and gets the jump on Jobson and easily subdues him. The sheriff thanks Kare for his help and apologizes for running him out of town.
