History

Blindspot has worked in secret for a number of years. She earned billions by using her powers to steal passwords, industrial secrets, military plans, etc., while erasing memories about herself from anyone who encountered her in order to not be captured and arrested.[1][3]

At some point she allied herself with Mystique, Rogue, and Destiny (before the three had formed the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants). She and Rogue quickly became best friends, mostly because their powers were quite similar and thus Blindspot is one of the rare few people who is able to touch Rogue without being affected by her power.[3]

They worked together for several months earning a lot of money. However, both Mystique and Destiny disliked working with Blindspot, possibly because they were worried what Blindspot's influence on Rogue could one day exceed their own.[4]

Their last mission together was a contract with Tomo Yoshida to steal the secret of Adamantium from Lord Dark Wind. Yoshida sent his nephew Sunfire with them, but even so they failed.[3] After this mission Mystique decided to sever their working relationship, so Blindspot removed all their memories about herself and left.[4]

Several weeks later, Blindspot learned that Lord Dark Wind was looking for vengeance. Blindspot realized what Rogue and others would be in danger, since they no longer remembered the mission and thus would not be wary of Lord Dark Wind. Blindspot returned to Japan and erased the memories about the mission from Tomo Yoshida and Sunfire, and then planned to do so with Lord Dark Wind as well. She infiltrated his base and discovered what Dark Wind had actually already been killed by his daughter Yuriko Oyama. Blindspot managed to take her by surprise and erased Yuriko's memories as well.[4]

However, years later Yuriko, now known as Lady Deathstrike, confronted her, revealing that her cyborg body's software was capable of restoring the memories. In order to save her life, Blindspot convinced Deathstrike that they had managed to steal the Adamantium formula previously, and promised that she would be able to lure Rogue and Mystique to Japan (secretly hoping what they would be able to defeat Deathstrike). Blindspot had also removed the Silver Samurai's memories of being a hero and gave him memories about Sunfire brainwashing him instead. This resulted in Silver Samurai destroying Sunfire's public image as a hero by revealing his connection to terrorist Mystique.[5][2][4]

Blindspot & Rogue

Rogue indeed came to Japan. She allied with Sunfire and attacked Silver Samurai and Lady Deathstrike. Unfortunately, they were defeated and furthermore Deathstrike cut Sunfire's legs. Sunfire and Rogue were imprisoned together with Blindspot. As Sunfire lay injured, Blindspot pushed Rogue onto him, assuring she would permanently absorb him. After Rogue attacked Deathstrike, Blindspot then attempted to remove all of Rogue's memories to the point where she was still a member of the Brotherhood.[4] When the X-Men arrived, Rogue attacked them, but as she absorbed their powers her memories were restored. They went to where Rogue last saw Sunfire, but his body was missing; leading some of the X-Men to believe he was somehow still alive.[4]

Blindspot told her that the reason she erased so many of Rogue's memories was because in all of her life Rogue was the only friend Blindspot ever had. The time they spent together were the happiest in her life. She always treasured these memories and even kept Rogue's old uniform as a keepsake for years. While she had earned billions, Blindspot hated her life as she was like a ghost, constantly erasing people's memories about herself in order to not be arrested for her crimes. Tired of being lonely Blindspot wanted to be friends with Rogue again. Rogue, however, refused. She allowed Blindspot to leave and gave her her new uniform.[6]

It is unknown if Blindspot retained her mutant powers after M-Day.

Powers

Memory Absorption and Erasure: Blindspot is able to selectively absorb the memories of others and store them within her own mind indefinitely. She can erase an hour, a week, or even years of memories and the affected person is generally unaware that something is missing until they try to recall these memories. However some seem to know that their memories have been altered.[3] Blindspot is unaffected by Rogue's absorption power,[3] but Rogue is vulnerable to Blindspot's powers.[4]

Memory Implantation: Blindspot can give the memories to others, even if they do not belong to the person or people she is giving them to. She can also fabricate and create new memories.[3][4] Whether or not the memories linger in her mind after she dispenses them to other individuals is unknown.

According to Lady Deathstrike she must touch the person she is altering, and it must be an organic body part. Because of this most of Deathstrike's body is now immune to her power.[2]

Abilities

She appears to be skilled as a conspirator and she said she has made billions of dollars with her power.[6]

Notes

  • The name "Blindspot" was given to her by Rogue, because when her power affects the others it is leaving behind a blind spot where the erased memory previously was.[3]
