Bloodstorm[src]

History

Origin[]

Bloodstorm One was to be the first of a line of vampiric shocktroopers utilized by Hydra's D.O.A.. He was cloned from DNA taken from Dracula and created in a lab by Lt. Gregory Belial. On Belial's search for a vampire DNA sample he found Suze Harlow, a girl once bitten by Dracula himself. Together with D.O.A.'s main operatives he retrieved the corpse despite the resistance of Suze's father Jeb Harlow.[3][4] In the events leading up to Bloodstorm's creation, Varnae communicated telepathically with him through Dracula's son, Janus, issuing instructions. Bloodstorm neared his emergence from the containment tube as Belial commanded a gradual drainage of the fluid. However, in a sudden turn, Bloodstorm shattered the glass, demolishing the Dreadnought that had stolen the Exorcist Gun from the Nightstalkers. Despite efforts to sedate him, Bloodstorm's strength proved overwhelming. Tragically, he ended Belial's life and stood poised to heed Varnae's hypnotic commands. Bloodstorm ruthlessly killed everyone.[5] Hydra operatives made a futile attempt to halt Bloodstorm's advance. Disregarding their efforts, he callously flung Belial's limp form at them, seized the Exorcist gun along with another firearm, and swiftly dispatched them. With his path clear, he commandeered a Sky-Cycle and set course for the destination dictated by his master, Varnae.[6]

Nightstalkers[]

Bloodstorm descended upon Boston, landing on a rooftop opposite the wreckage of the Nightstalkers' headquarters. Finding no trace of his objective, he swiftly departed using his jet-pack. Unbeknownst to him, his movements were observed by Hannibal King, Frank Drake, and Salomé, who trailed after him. Arriving at Varnae's lair armed with the Exorcist gun, the sole human weapon capable of harming Varnae, Bloodstorm inadvertently incited Salomé's ire with an ill-timed proposition. Varnae, angered by Salomé's audacity, unleashed Bloodstorm against her. However, Bloodstorm proved no match for Salomé's magical prowess, succumbing to a single devastating blast. As King and Drake breached the hideout, Varnae's focus wavered, weakening his control over Bloodstorm momentarily. Seizing the opportunity, Bloodstorm turned the Exorcist gun against King in a fleeting moment of autonomy. Although his aim faltered, resulting in the loss of the weapon, Bloodstorm's brief rebellion was short-lived. King and Blade swiftly subdued him, driving a stake towards his chest. Though Blade's strike missed his heart, Bloodstorm appeared to meet his demise in an explosion triggered by Frank Drake, who overloaded the Exorcist gun.[7]

In the cataclysmic explosion, King and Drake fused with Bloodstorm, morphing into a monstrous amalgam reminiscent of Dracula himself. Following several confrontations with Blade and Varnae's Bad Seed cohorts, the abomination met its ultimate end when Blade and his alternate future counterpart, Crossbow, collaborated to liberate Drake and King from their conjoined state. Their efforts proved successful, but the true soul of Dracula seized control of the body, heralding the return of the genuine Dracula.[1]

Blood Hunt[]

Bloodstorm returned in a new body and joined the Bloodcoven, a group of superpowered vampires which he became the leader of, though he was sometimes at odds with fellow member Smoke Eater. During the vampire uprising orchestrated by Varnae possessing Blade's body, he led the Avengers into being ambushed by the Bloodcoven. The Bloodcoven managed to overpower the heroes, but as Bloodstorm was about to turn Captain America into a vampire, in an attempt to take away humanity's symbol, he was stopped by the Black Panther who sacrificed himself to buy his remaining teammates time to escape.[2]

The Bloodcoven were then sent to capture Blade's daughter Bloodline, but were repelled by the Avengers and Dracula, losing one of their members in the process.[8] The team later followed Varnae to his long lost temple where he achieved godhood, only to be faced by the full might of the Avengers and the Fists of Khonshu. Bloodstorm and his Bloodcoven fought the heroes, managing to hold their own ground, until Varnae was at last defeated, forcing the Bloodcoven to flee.[9]

Vs. Blood Hunters[]

After the Blood Hunt, what remained of the Structure took refuge in Brooklyn. Rebellion sparked in the Bloodcoven, as Smoke Eater contested Bloodstorm One's abilities as a leader, believing the Blood Hunt as a massive failure; after the clone of Dracula silenced his rival in combat, he wanted to make his followers reaffirm his allegiance to him and one of them, Avery, alerted the vampires about a new enemy group coming to eliminate them, the Blood Hunters.[10]

Weaknesses

Bloodstorm One, like all vampires, has a number of special vulnerabilities. His greatest weakness, like that of other vampires, is that he must ingest about one quart of fresh blood in order to maintain his vitality. Otherwise, his powers will steadily decrease to the point where he enters a comatose state. As he is a superpowered vampire, Bloodstorm One required superhuman blood to feast on, such as that of Thor.[11] Bloodstorm One is highly allergic to silver and can be severely injured, or killed, with silver weaponry. If Bloodstorm One is injured by silver, his recovery time is considerably slower than normal. Bloodstorm One is also unable to withstand exposure to direct sunlight. His tissue begins to instantly dry up and will crumble to powder within a matter of moments. Bloodstorm One can be killed by having a wooden stake plunged into his heart, somehow interrupting the mystical energies that keeps him alive. Bloodstorm One can also be killed by being decapitated and being exposed to fire. Bloodstorm One can also be affected by religious icons, such as the Star of David or a crucifix for example. Bloodstorm One is affected by the strength of the wielder's faith in the icon and religion it represents, not the size of the icon itself. Dracula must rest within his coffin during daylight hours. He must line his coffin with soil from his homeland in order to both sustain his power and travel more than 100 miles from his birthplace.
