Box Sentinel from Alpha Flight Vol 5 1 0001

Due to Orchis's propaganda, the Canadian government declared mutants as threats to the country. To supplement Alpha Flight, Department H Director Erika Doiron restarted the Box program with Orchis and recruited Roger Bochs Jr. to oversee the Project. Using Orchis' proprietary tech and building off his father's work, Bochs constructed the Box Sentinels, faster and sleeker Sentinels that could effectively track down mutants while avoiding property damage and ancillary loss. Unbeknownst to Department H, Alpha Flight was secretly helping protecting mutant refugees from the government, and were worried that the Sentinels would compromise them. After Alpha Flight's (secretly planned) humiliating loss to their former mutant teammates went viral on social media, an enraged Doiron immediately ordered the Box Sentinels to be deployed, much to the Flight's worry.[1]

When Feedback was spotted in Bend, Oregon, Doiron had Box Sentinels immediately deployed to apprehend him and forbade Alpha Flight from intervening to avoid another public defeat to mutants. With Bochs controlling them remotely, several units were destroyed by Feedback and the arriving members of Alpha Flight's mutant splinter group.[2] After several more units were destroyed or damaged, the splinter group was able to teleport away with Feedback although the remaining units were able to severely wound Nemesis in the process.[3] To buy Nemesis and the other mutants time, Feedback turned himself in to Alpha Flight at Turtle Mountain Provincial Park, Manitoba and was taken aboard the Omnijet as Box Sentinels arrived to escort him back to headquarters. However, due to the actions of Argent, Department H uncovered Krakoa North's location and directed the Box Sentinels there while in mid-flight.[4]

Properties

Much like with other Sentinels, Box Sentinels were powerful robots designed to track down and capture mutants.[1] Box Sentinels were equipped with advanced weaponry, tracking technology and thrusters to allow flight.[2]

Roger Bochs Jr. felt that the Stark Sentinels used by Orchis in America were "oversized monstrosities" and designed the Box Sentinels to be smaller and faster to walk through doors rather than smash through buildings.[1]

Following the Box Sentinels' defeat, Bochs made plans to have their joints reinforced with adamantium or vibranium and suggested thicker housing for their outer shells.[3]

Wary that the Box Sentinels' A.I. could go rogue, Bochs installed failsafe programs which would allow him to take control or shut down any Box Sentinel that acted outside of its programming from his control center.[1]
