History
Breakworlders hailed from the harsh planet Breakworld and evolved into a cruel warrior culture with advanced technology. Their technology allowed their psychics to see partial versions of the future. A group of Breakworlders known as the War-Mongers of Breakworld protected their world from the maddened Doom Maidens.[3] In Breakworld society there were the Augurs, precognitive Breakworlders who could foresee the future and come with prophecies of what was about to come.[4] One of these prophecies foretold that their planet would be destroyed by a mutant from Earth, most likely a member of the heroic X-Men, which would turn out to be Colossus.[5]
The Breakworlders, under the rule of Powerlord Kruun, declared war on Earth, but the interplanetary agency S.W.O.R.D. intervened by forming a diplomatic deal. This deal established that the Breakworlders would not attack Earth and instead they would collaborate in taking down the potential mutant who would destroy their race.[6] Through a trial which involved a group of the mightiest Breakworlders fighting each other to death, Ord emerged victorious and was tasked to travel to Earth. He collaborated with BeneTech Laboratories to create the Hope Serum that would cure the mutants' of their condition, only for the X-Men to fight back against this.[7] With Ord failing at his task, the Breakworlders decided to go on with their plan at destroying Earth through the use of the Retaliator, and because of this cut all contact with S.W.O.R.D.[8]
However, former Breakworlder warrior Aghanne who preached for peace and prosperity was opposed to all this needless war and violence, and saw the prophecy as false, which Kruun saw as madness. She later deduced that the prophecy was perhaps misinterpreted, and hoped that Colossus may in fact help Breakworld restructure itself to a more benevolent and peaceful place. When the X-Men came to confront the Breakworlders, Aghanne allied with the mutants to take down Kruun and reform Breakworld.[9]
The X-Men split into two teams, one with Colossus would go to Kruun's palace to threaten him by dislodging the core which would bring Breakworld's destruction, while the other would go to stop the Retaliator. Unfortunately, the Retaliator couldn't be stopped and regardless what the heroes did, the weapon eventually launched its missiles. Meanwhile, Colossus figured that the so-called prophecy had been all set up by Aghanne who deemed her people too evil to exist and wished to bring her race's extinction.[10] Colossus refused to destroy Breakworld and with Ord's sacrifice killed Aghanne. While that happened the heroes on Earth were able to stop a couple of bullets launched, with the last one phasing through the planet thanks to Shadowcat who had been trapped inside it. With the threat of the Breakworlders neutralized and Kruun dethroned, the X-Men left Breakworld to rebuild itself.[11]
As soon as Colossus and the X-Men left, a heated civil war erupted between the followers of Kruun and Aghanne, among other factions who desired to seize control. Eventually Aghanne's followers came on top and began spreading the concept of kindness, forcing those who didn't comply with this foreign concept to leave to other planets.[12] Kruun, his mate Haleena, and his followers boarded a rundown warship and made their way to Earth to seek out Colossus since he was technically their new Powerlord. The Breakworlders explained that they sought refuge as they didn't consider Breakworld their home anymore.[13]
Through an arrangement with S.W.O.R.D., the Breakworlders were granted temporary asylum within the X-Men's Utopia, but despite the hospitality bad blood still ran between the aliens and the heroes. Kruun especially was unable to accept the miserable state he and his people were in and secretly planned to take his revenge. He recreated the mutant cure and subdued most of the X-Men, except for Kitty Pryde and Wolverine who fought back. When Haleena sacrificed herself to resurrect Kitty after she was killed due to Kruun's complot, he realized that he and his people needed to change for the better. Resurrecting his mate and vowing to improve his people, Kruun and the Breakworlders were allowed by Mayor Sinclair to live in an abandoned neighborhood in San Francisco where they established Breakworldtown. Meanwhile, the Breakworlders back at Breakworld prospered thanks to their new ways of life and began working on diplomacy with other worlds.[14]
Unfortunately, not all went well as Breakworlder Kuva established in Oakland, California an international criminal organization named the Oakland Clan. This clan worked alongside other criminal organizations to form the Four Clan Syndicate. Kuva challenged fellow clan leader Yukio since she saw weakness in her, only for the latter to kill her after Oakland's champion Gah-Ran lost to Storm.[15] Another gang of Breakworlders led by Gar-Kuva made a deal with Weapon X-Force to obtain a large amount of Nuke Pills, but were taken down when they attempted to backstab the mutants.[16]
Not all of Breakworld became peaceful as a new Powerlord by the name of Varrn emerged who kept up his people's old brutal traditions in City Seven. During Dormammu's cosmic invasion, Cable and the X-Terminators arrived to the city where they battled the hostile Breakworlders and stole their new Retaliator to use it against the invaders.[17]
Alternate Realities[]
Marvel 2099 (Earth-2099)[]
When the savage Araneons arrived to Breakworld with the purpose of raiding it, the Breakworlders welcomed them, since they shared similar practices and views. The Breakworlders allowed the Araneons to install a spindle that would deplete the planet's core of its energy. Because of their collaboration with the Araneons, Dracula sought to kill them all by having his Darkhawk devour Breakworld's sun, but was stopped by Star-Lord.[2] Following the defeat of both of the Araneons and the vampires, the leaders of Breakworld were brought to the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda where they would be judged for aligning with the Araneon Empire.[18]Powers and Abilities

Type of Government
Breakworld's government is solely based on domination. The planet was ruled by an individual who managed to take the position from their predecessor through violence, war and extermination. Any attempt to influence the ruler, even by those close to them, was seen as treason.[19] If the ruler was to be defeated and captured, the Breakworlders would deem them as weak, leaving them to not only refuse to save them but to kill them themselves.[10] The latest ruler was the tyrannical Powerlord Kruun of the group named the Open Hand,[21] who took over from Sylatin by ripping his right arm,[23] until he himself was dethroned by Colossus.[11]
Following that, a less violent government was established by Aghanne's more peaceful followers and soon began work on non-martial law.[22]Level of Technology
The Breakworlders possessed highly advanced technology thanks to possessing a metal that can be powered magically and defy gravity.[22] Pieces of their technology included: "timeshadows" that predicted the future; space travel such as Ord's spaceship which turned out to be BeneTech Laboratories' headquarters,[6] their Bruteships,[4] and the Resplendent Celestial Slaughter;[24] advanced translators; mind probes; and some weapons and vehicles.[25] However, technology created for treating the sick was quite primitive even by Earth's standards.[19]
Their city was entirely powered by a nuclear core which powered the entire planet and could be accessed from underneath Kruun's throne palace.[26] The Breakworlders were able to construct a moon-sized weapon that functioned partially on magic and could fire gigantic hollow missiles that could destroy planets from light-years away, though the planned firing couldn't be changed once set.[26] Later on, a new Retaliator was created in the form of a giant powerful robot.[17]Cultural Traits
Due to Breakworld's harsh environment, its inhabitants grew to become a violent and cruel civilization. The Breakworlders believed in the survival of the fittest, and weakness was considered a sin. Kind acts like tending to the weak, treating the sick and the injured or mourning the dead were foreign and prohibited to Breakworld's society. Special Breakworlders were specifically bred as Show-Killers who fought in the arena for the amusement of others.[19] Disgraced Breakworlders often wished for painful and public executions, and getting help was seen as demeaning.[1] Despite this, children were considered by some as a symbol of hope and will to survive.[21]
The Breakworlders apparently believed in a "Celestial Hell",[21] and the "Ancients" who in their belief birthed them in the cruel world.[12] The prophecy of Colossus breaking their world was known to the Breakworlders as the Attur-Hyn.[1]
In Breakworld's language Attur-Hei translated to "Palace of the Corpse".[1]Representatives
