Brian Cruz attended the New Mutants Leadership Institute and was best friends with Quentin Quire.[1]
After Laurie Garrison used her powers to force Quentin to kill himself,[1] Brian found Quentin's body in his room. Xuân told Brian that medical scans showed Quentin's brain shut itself down, but Brian refused to believe that Quentin would have killed himself,[2] leading to his investigation of Dr. Sean Garrison.[3]
