History

Origins and Early Years[]

Bricklayer was an ancient entity, an Elderspawn born of Chthon,[1][2] whom he called "[his] Dark Elder".[2] He was described as an "ambush predator".[1]

For ages, he slept in the sediments, until Humans dredged his clay into bricks, which were used to built a house.

In retaliation, the Bricklayer tortured the house's inhabitants. For years, the house kept being the death of many lives, while its historical value protected it from destruction.[1]

Modern Age[]

1985[]

In 1985, the Bricklayer's house was located in Slatesboro, New York. After a family of three died in it, the neighborhood burned the house down.[1]

Recent Years[]

The Bricklayer was allowed to return as one of his brick was used in a wall of the Hudsonview Hostel, in Lotkill, New York, making the place cursed ground, the Bricklayer's house. At least one other house had a brick in its wall,[1] as well as a subway section in Hell's Kitchen, New York City, and allegedly across the globe and farther.[2]

As Bricklayer was rampaging, he was opposed by Scarlet Witch, resident hero of Lotkill, who defeated him by demonstrating mercy to him, which caused the Hudsonview Hostel to be destroyed. The Scarlet Witch was unaware that another house had a brick of the Brickslayer in its wall.[1]

Battling the Scarlet Witch at the subway station of Hell's Kitchen

As the Chthon escaped the Scarlet Witch's custody, and his return was whispered throughout the Flickering Realms, the Bricklayer returned in the subway of Hell's Kitchen, leading the "Bricklayer's Children", humans contaminated by his red dust, to serve as followers for Chthon. Daredevil performed an exorcism to break the possession, while the Scarlet Witch destroyed the brick using the Bile of Satha.[2]

Attributes

Weaknesses

Bricklayer was defeated by the Scarlet Witch demonstrating mercy to him, causing the brick and building to be destroyed.[1] Sorcerous solvents, such as the Bile of Satha, could destroy the brick as well.[2] Destroying the brick caused the destruction of the local incarnation of the Brickslayer.[1][2]

The Bricklayer's possession could be stopped by a Catholic exorcism.[2]
