History
Origins[]
The Brighthold was written by "the twin fingers of the Demiurge",[1] and was said to be the key to all white magic.[2]
The Brighthold included the Violet Raptor from the Shi'ar.[1]
17th century[]
The Countess of Arundel, back in Europe, died protecting the Brighthold. Her granddaughter Abigail Housman acquired the book, and learned magic from it.
In Christ's Crown, New York, in 1658, Abigail Housman was visited by Viscount de Ablo (Esteban Corazón de Ablo), agent of Mephisto, who wished to take the Brighthold. Facing Housman's refusal, de Ablo used the Gorath Stone to plague Christ's Town, urging Housman to use the Brighthold and summon a spirit, Blackheart from the Modern Age. Blackheart helped Abigail Housman to translate the Violet Raptor. To kill Abigail, de Ablo designated her as a witch, and she was trapped by her townsfolk.
Upon Abigail's death, Blackheart's powers were returned to him. He faced de Ablo who came to her house to retrieve the Brighthold. Blackheart beat him and departed with the Brighthold to keep it away from Mephisto,[1] by taking it into the Modern Age.[2]
Modern Age[]
Blackheart kept the Brighthold in his room at the Avengers Academy Campus,[2] sometimes perusing at it on the Campus.[3] Jack O'Lantern (Hudson Berkhart) stole it with the intent of selling it but the stealing was discovered and Jack returned the book.[2]

Notes
- Cynthia von Doom was stated by Mephisto that she "might have been a powerful white witch", "a wielder of the Brighthold itself".[4] It is unknown if those are the limitations set for one to use the book.
