History

Brittany Chien was a martial artist who became an operative of the Techuza at some point of her life, using the codename Shuriken. She had a tumultuous relationship with a man named Jerald Dragoon, producing a son named Hayes.[2] When her son contracted the deadly Theta Virus, however, Shuriken accepted an offer from the American intelligence agency called Aladdin to research a cure for her son. Shuriken found herself as a top agent to Aladdin, answering only to its secret boss, the A.I. GENIE. She was still a blackmailed servant, because GENIE was dangling her son's fate before her constantly in order to ensure her compliance. The computer ordered her to retrieve powerful ultras to Aladdin base, as Gemini and Rune.[3]

She watched the batle between the two powerful ultras and when she finally met Gemini, she decided to don't capture him. Later she was trapped by Aladdin operatives inside a special contention chamber and transported ian a spaceship to the Outer Solar System, where she participated in the adquisition of the coccon of Adam Warlock that came from Earth-616. [4]

After the Black September reality changes, her involvement with the coccon was seemly erased, and she was given a last task by GENIE: To capture the most powerful ultra of all: Amber Hunt.[5]

Notes

  • "Shuriken" was an independent creator-owned series created by Reggie Byers and published by Victory Productions from 1985 to 1987. After the end of the first Shuriken, the character moved to Eternity Comics, an imprint of Malibu Comics, with the series Blade of Shuriken . Reggie Byers sold the rights to Malibu in late 1987, making Shuriken one of the first characters that were owned directly by the publisher rather than the creators. After several limited series (Shuriken Cold Steel, Hellbender and Shuriken (1991), the character was rebooted as part of the Ultraverse in 1995.Shuriken apparead for her first time in the Ultraverse in UltraForce #6, and had a full appareance in Curse of Rune #1.
  • Despite a change in name, The reboot character (Brittany Chien) had similar appareance, powers and backstory as the original incarnation(The ninja Kyoko Shidara ), and would be in fact the same character, only a bit older and using an alias.
  • "Shuriken" has been owned by Marvel since 1994, so that's the reason why Marvel Database covers her pre-Malibu appearances (for similar case, see Marvelman).
