History
The Brotherhood received a letter prior to going back in time to try to defeat the X-Men before they could master magic and tech. The letter was sent by a Charles Xavier II from a divergent timeline who had already traveled to the past, and contained instructions on how to try again and win.[1] The Brotherhood took advantage of the original five X-Men's absence in the past to impersonate them there, reshaping the future as they saw fit.[2]

Impersonating the X-Men
After trapping Professor X within his own mansion, the Future Brotherhood killed Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants before setting out to enslave all mutants[3] which created a new timeline, Earth-TRN657.[4] Xavier managed to reach out to some mutants and encouraged them to fight, but their X-Resistance was no match for the Future Brotherhood.[4] In this new timeline, the original 5 X-Men were viewed with dread and disdain by other mutants, who had to hide from them to stay alive.[5]
Xavier's telepathic message reached Magneto in the present day of Earth-616, which became affected by the time ripple effects caused by the Future Brotherhood's actions in the past.[3][2] The original X-Men used the time machine Magneto had built to fix the timestream[3] to hop across history in search for the cause of the time ripples. They came across the moment of Magneto death by the hands of the "X-Men" and saved him by pulling him out of the timestream. The future Brotherhood became aware that the original X-Men had returned, but saw them as pretenders who had forfeited the claim to their original time and place.[6]
The original X-Men, joined by Magneto from this timeline, arrived at the mansion and and confronted the Future Brotherhood.[6] The fight was a stalemate until Beast used a time-travel device picked up in 2099 to summon allies from across the timeline ravaged by the Future Brotherhood, overwhelming them. Xorn's Construct was overpowered and disintegrated, while the rest escaped back to the timestream. The alterations to the timeline were undone, stabilizing the timestream and keeping the history of Earth-616 unaltered. Magneto later sought the Brotherhood out in order to kill all of them before they could replace the X-Men in the past again.[2]See Also
