History

Butch was one of the criminals who worked posing as a roustabout at Tibolt's Circus, which under the command of the original Ringmaster operated as a Fifth Column assassination ring. He may have been among the thugs who encountered Captain America and Bucky when the Ringmaster ordered the kidnapping of government agent Betsy Ross, and later was among the several Circus members who ambushed the patriotic duo. Alongside Spike, Butch attempted to shoot Cap as one of the circus's elephants tossed him through the air, only for Cap to angle his descent enough to instead make a crash-landing on the two thugs, knocking them both out.
