History

Cadet Marvel was part of Hydra's new recruitment program, led by Gremlin, which kidnapped children from their parents, aged up and brainwash them, gave them powers, and made them super heroes to legitimize and protect itself and its shell company, Echidna. Each of these children was modeled after existing super heroes and Cadet Marvel's identity was inspired by Captain Marvel. Cadet Marvel, along with other children, Hellrune, Moon Squire and Liberty, and Gremlin, now under the identity of Titan, formed a super hero squad called the Assembly.[1] A fake story on how he gained his powers was released to the public, involving the fusion core of a classified experimental jet exploding and giving the young super hero powers. The Assembly's first mission was to stop Quicksand from destroying San Francisco with a sandstorm: since then, Cadet Marvel and his companions became a staple in San Francisco's super hero ambient.[2]

One night, the Assembly intervened in a fight between Spider-Woman and Zzzax, who was trying to damage some of Echidna's properties. The forces of the Assembly, together with Jessica Drew, were able to stop and arrest the electrical monster. [3] Spider-Woman met the team a second time, when a squad of Echidna agents harassed Angar the Screamer: Drew rebuked Cadet Marvel for his brash methods and misunderstanding of the situation, after he punched Angar so hard the criminal flew into a building, but Titan distorted her words, remarking to Cadet Marvel to not damage any of Echidna's property. After the the team apprehended Angar and went to their base, they started doubting Titan's methods.[2]

After Liberty, because of Angar's scream, started remembering her traumatic past, betrayed the team and allied herself with Spider-Woman to free Angar from Alcatraz Island, the Assembly irrupted into the prison. A now free Angar screamed again against Cadet Marvel and his friends and all but Titan started too having visions of their past.[4] Having now partially recovered their memories, the Assembly helped Drew in defeating Titan and the other prisoners in Alcatraz. The group escaped before a bomb set up by a dying Gremlin exploded, presumably killing the Russian mutant. The day after, the team discussed and decided to remain together, now to fight Hydra and for this reason Jessica put the in contact with Nick Fury, who would've help them create new identities or track down their parents.[1]
