History
Callisto was the leader of the Morlocks, an underground society of mutants who were too deformed to live on the surface. Seeking an heir to lead her people, she sent the Morlocks to kidnap Cyclops and Jean Grey, hoping to convince Cyclops to rule alongside her. Soon, the other X-Men came to the Morlock tunnels to rescue them. Callisto and the others fought them and surrounded them, and she threatened to kill them. However, Storm challenged her to a duel for leadership of the Morlocks and manged to defeat her. Now the Morlocks' new leader, Storm promised to return once mutant acceptance was achieved and the Morlocks could safely live among average humans. Until then, she ordered Callisto to rule in her place.[1]
Notes
- Callisto was voiced by Susan Roman in X-Men: The Animated Series and by Courtenay Taylor in X-Men '97.
- Developed for television by Larry Houston and Frank Squillace.
Trivia
- In the Spanish-dubbed version of the show, Callisto is portrayed as a male character in the two-part episode "Out of the Past". In the other episodes involving the Morlocks, Callisto is correctly voiced by a female actress.
- In the original Morlocks story, Callisto captured Angel. This was changed to Cyclops for the animated version, most likely because Angel was not a member of the main cast.[2]
