Synopsis for "The Death of Captain America, Act 2 - The Burden of Dreams: Part Three"
Dr. Faustus reports to the Red Skull, telling him of the Winter Soldier's escape. The Skull contemplates having him killed, but he admires his courage. Plus, Faustus never considered himself as the Skull's lackey. They decide to move up their mysterious plans since the Winter Soldier (Bucky) knows too much.
Bucky sits in a cell after Black Widow and Falcon have captured him. As Black Widow and several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents decide what to do with him, several scientists look over Bucky's robotic left arm, apparently detached when he was detained. The arm comes alive on its own and attacks the scientists and then flies toward the air vent.
The arm reaches Bucky and he escapes, taking down several agents along the way; in a non-lethal manner. Director Tony Stark dons his Iron Man armor and goes after Bucky. Bucky attacks from the shadows and surprises Tony. He tries to use a tactile EMP (electro-Magnetic Pulse) but Tony, in his long career as an armored hero, knows how to get around EMP's. Still, Bucky gets the upper-hand and overloads Stark's armor and rips off his face shield. With an automatic gun pointed at Tony's exposed face, Stark threatens to liquify Bucky's head with his aimed repulors if he even flinches.
The two talk and Tony tells Bucky that Captain America's last request was for Tony to help Bucky. He chooses to help him by offering him the mantle of his old mentor, Steve Rogers, to be the new Captain America. Bucky agrees under two conditions: One, Tony has to probe Bucky's mind to make sure there are no more Winter Soldier "safe words" or latent commands, and two, Bucky doesn't report to anyone, including Tony.
Tony agrees.
