Synopsis for "Trapped on Titan!"
Rick Jones is captured and brought before Thanos on Titan where he uses the Mind-Cyclone to find the location of the Cosmic Cube. Together along with a shrouded figure, Thanos departs to Isle Dernieres and leaves the Super-Skrull in charge. Before leaving, Thanos gifts the Super-Skrull the "Unisphere" to assist him if he would run into any serious trouble.
Some time later, Rick Jones remains locked in a strange cell until he is freed by Mentor and Eros who explain that they are the resistance against their family, Thanos, who is Mentor's son and Eros' brother. Rick exchanges places with Mar-Vell and the former Kree soldier joins the two Eternals in their mission.
Meanwhile, Thanos, with his hooded companion in tow, make it to Isle Dernieres and approach the location of the Cosmic Cube only to be met by the Destroyer. The scene then shifts to Avengers Mansion where the group of Captain America, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Black Panther are met by Lou-Ann who has broken free of Thanos' control long enough to warn them about Thanos and the danger that Rick is in.
Captain Marvel, Mentor, and Eros fight their way through the Hall of Science to I.S.A.A.C., Captain Marvel enters the room while Mentor and Eros remain outside to fight off any of Thanos' Thralls. In the Hall, Mar-Vell comes face to face with the Super-Skrull and the two battle it out while a screen reveals that the knowledge of the Cosmic Cube's location had been implanted in Rick's unconscious mind by the Supreme Intelligence. When Mar-Vell comes out as the victor, Super-Skrull tries to use the Unisphere but either it doesn't work or never would have done anything to begin with, leaving the Super-Skrull to seemingly die. Once dealt with, Mar-Vell regroups with Mentor and Eros before departing to Earth to stop Thanos and his destruction. Mentor and Eros remain behind to fight off Thanos' Thralls and possibly retake Titan.
Mar-Vell is teleported to Earth where he meets up with the Avengers and Lou-Ann who is in pretty bad shape, leaving her survival uncertain.
Notes
- Plot by Starlin, script by Friedrich.
- Super-Skrull dies in battle with Captain Marvel (at least that is what Mar-Vell says). However, he will return shortly to the Marvel Universe. He is next seen, posing as a human named Joshua Plague, the new leader of the criminal Rat Pack gang, in Marvel Chillers #3.
- This issue does not contain a letters page, but does contain a 1/2 page article and diagram on Titan. It is entitled, "Everything You Wanted to Know About Titan! But Were Afraid to Ask!". This title is probably a play on words with the then-contemporary motion picture, Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex. But Were Afraid to Ask .
- Mar-Vell's name is misspelled "Marv-Ell" throughout this issue.
