History
Origins[]
A driven Air Force pilot and security agent, Carol Danvers dreamt of one day going to space. Her day job was to investigate and safeguard the American space program from disruption by alien attackers. However, it was her own life that was ultimately disrupted when a Kree device triggered her half alien DNA and awakened her human/Kree hybrid abilities.
Now known as Captain Marvel, Carol wields superhuman strength and can not only fly, but can also achieve interstellar flight under her own power. Her intimate connection to space also allows her to harness and direct vast cosmic energy, working alongside the Avengers to defeat intergalactic enemies.
Midnight Suns[]
Carol dropped into the Sanctum Sanctorum to help Iron Man and Doctor Strange against the attacking Hydra forces who got inside the Sanctum through a portal. The heroes dealt with the minions, but when the Mother of Demons Lilith herself appeared, they could do nothing against her - she withstood a blow from Captain Marvel like it was nothing - and Doctor Strange barely managed to push her back through the portal.[1]
Seeking new allies in the fight against Lilith, Doctor Strange then took Tony and Carol to the Abbey, hidden inside a Pocket Dimension in Salem (Massachusetts). The Avengers were introduced to the Midnight Suns and their leader, the Caretaker (Sarah). Carol and the others then stood by and watched as Sarah and Strange resurrected Hunter, Lilith's forsaken child and the only one to have ever defeated her. Captain Marvel joined the Midnight Suns in their fight against Lilith, making use of the C.E.N.T.R.A.L. computer installed by Tony to decrypt intel retrieved from Hydra. She also made herself a new home in the Abbey, where she joined Blade's book club and developed a friendship with the Hunter.[1]
Carol was able to trace the unique gamma signature from the Sanctum to its source in the Warehouse District. Captain Marvel and Blade joined the Hunter on a mission to stop Hydra's Doctor Faustus. Upon arriving on the warehouse roof, they immediately noted Hydra's presence before spotting Doctor Faustus and an unknown device through a skylight below. Captain Marvel opted for a direct approach, smashing through the skylight and engaging the Hydra troops. Faustus decided to test his device, which exploded in a massive energy burst which Captain Marvel managed to absorb. Though they were unable to apprehend Faustus, they managed to located and retrieve a valuable artifact.[1]
Captain Marvel detected the gamma signature from the Hydra technology again, and seeking to capture Doctor Faustus, Hunter and Captain Marvel departed for New York Harbor. They observed Faustus ordering Hydra soldiers transporting a gamma-infused device. Captain Marvel vaulted down to the docks, where the heroes managed to neutralize the bomb and successfully capture Faustus. He initially refused to cooperate with their interrogation, though his defiant attitude rapidly dissolved when faced with Captain Marvel's unwavering determination. Just as Faustus prepared to answer their questions, he was suddenly struck by a green dart fired by Crossbones and disintegrated, leaving nothing but dust. Captain Marvel was frustrated that Faustus was killed right when he was ready to talk, but the mission wasn't entirely fruitless as Hunter discovered Faustus' notebook among the scattered debris. Carol began to study the journal despite it being a work of a total madman.[1]
