I am the rot that eats at both life and hope. As I return you to the shadows from whence you came…so too shall I shatter the elemental bonds of life itself!

Carrion Crow[source]

History

The being known as the Carrion Crow was Native American trickster deity who beared great magic and acted as the harbinger of messages from the beyond. During the Chaos King's campaign to destroy all of existence, the Carrion Crow was one of the countless deities who fell under his service. Learning of the possibility that one of the diaries written by Destiny may contain the key to his defeat, the Chaos King sent the Carrion Crow to claim it and destroy it.[3]

The Carrion Crow sent his ravens to look for it through the ruins of the X-Mansion, only to find the resurrected Thunderbird, Banshee, Dr. Moira MacTaggert, Multiple Man's dupes, Esme and Sophie Cuckoo. Seeing that they had already found the diary, Carrion Crow attacked them, forcing Thunderbird to pray to his god of the same name to open a portal for them to escape. Everyone managed to pass through the portal, except for Sophie as she was taken by the ravens. Soon Carrion Crow manifested before her, and planning to use her to track down the other X-Men, transformed Sophie into his minion.[4]

Carrion Crow sent Sophie and his crows to track down the X-Men, and eventually found them on Muir Island. As the island was a nexus that connected to the divine spirits of creation, Carrion Crow opened a portal for Sophie and his crows to attack the heroes and prevent them from unleashing the spirits against the Chaos King. Sophia fought Esme, and during their fight she momentarily came to her senses and instructed her sister to kill her as Carrion Crow had imbued with much of his power. Esme refused as she also transformed into corvine being due to their shared connection, while the rest of the X-Men fought the crows. Before going through the portal himself, Carrion Crow threw bursts of energy to take down the heroes, until Banshee unleashed a sonic screech at him and the portal, leaving the evil deity staggered and the portal destroyed.[1]

However, Carrion Crow still managed to arrive and confronted the X-Men mocking them all for believing they had a chance to win as they had inadvertently led him to the source of creation. He made quick of the Cuckoo sisters, slowly approached Moira, who was currently possessed by Destiny's spirit. Banshee tried to stall his advance with his sonic screams, while Destiny told Carrion Crow that his victory wasn't yet guaranteed and encouraged Thunderbird to call upon the power of his namesake. Sadly, Banshee eventually ran out of breath, allowing Carrion Crow to directly face him and Moira, and with another burst of energy he killed them. Fortunately, Thunderbird merged with the avatar of his god and divinely empowered he fought the Carrion Crow. Despite boasting that this would be all in vain, Carrion Crow was ultimately destroyed by Thunderbird who proceeded to chanel the energies of creation to help turn the tide of the existential war in the heroes' favor.[1]
