History
Carter was displeased by his daughter's choice not to pursue a career in law upon her graduation from college.[1] This ultimately led to a long period of estrangement between father and daughter, but they had begun to restore their relationship shortly before Carter was attacked by the superhuman terrorist known as Dust, who possessed his body to try and coerce Alison into joining his New Wave cult. This failed, but the possession caused Carter's body to break down, resulting in his death.[2]
