Origin[]

What is the origin of this category, the term "time remnants" and its explanation?

I didn't create the "Time Remnants" category, but think it has a viable purpose. A time remnant is a physical manifestation of an apparent temporal paradox, that is to say, a leftover version of a character created due to a divergence as a result of time travel, that is distinct from the primary version, yet not from an alternate reality. It has its own separate history which the character it diverged from does not share, can interact with its "self" or others from either's past, present, or future, and its ceasing to exist does not cause the death of the primary version, because it is merely a remnant out of its proper timeline. -- Annabell (talk) 22:38, June 7, 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation (if it's possible, I wouldn't mind if a summed-up version replaced the one from the infobox in the category). However, is it supported by official material (not the name, but its concept)?

Okay, I rewrote the description to provide further illumination and would note here that the category name is almost certainly from DC's The Flash, but in Earth-1218 this type of temporal effect is theoretically called a "grandfather paradox", and to the crux of your point, it's elaborated upon in The Spider(fly) Effect without being given an official name.
*** SPOILERS FOLLOW ***
In that story Peter Parker (Earth-616) and Cindy Moon (Earth-616) travel back to the morning before they were bitten by the Radioactive Spider, creating a divergent timeline, and accidentally prevent themselves from gaining their powers, as well as losing the powers they had. Thus in order to protect their existence in Earth-616's future (their present), they go under cover as Tony Richards and Jessica Drew, where with the help of Chronosaurus Rex, ultimately embark upon further time travel which erases all three of themselves from existence as it prevents their primary selves from ever going back in time in the first place to create the remnants that lost their powers. -- Annabell (talk) 01:43, June 8, 2016 (UTC)
That clears up most of my doubts, thanks. I'm still not entirely sold on the category name, but it's not like there could be a better, or at least equally-short, name.

Agreed. If we wanted to be entirely generic, something like "Temporal Paradoxes" would work. -- Annabell (talk) 02:50, June 8, 2016 (UTC)
I'm fine with that name. It's also less vague.

Okay, everything has been moved. -- Annabell (talk) 03:58, June 8, 2016 (UTC)
