History

Cecil was an expert hacker from Clarksburg, West Virginia recruited by his uncle Rodney as tech support for his gang of robbers. While he had no problem robbing banks, as he believed them to be evil entities, Cecil didn't like his uncle's direct approach, much preferring to empty the bank electronically instead of simply disabling security to make way for them to enter armed.

Cecil in life

During one heist, Rodney and his gang were stopped by Gwenpool, who happened to be in the bank trying to make a deposit. She nonchalantly killed them all, but was arrested by the NYPD in the end. She was placed in the same police car as Cecil, the only member who had survived due to having remained outside the bank in his uncle's van to do his part.

While Officer McGinty was transporting them, he confessed he'd decided he was through with being a cop, and let Gwen and Cecil go free after taking the bags of money she had tried to deposit from her prior job handling Orto. Having nowhere else to go, Cecil accepted Gwenpool's offer to join her and become her mission control.

Cecil and Gwen were soon targeted by M.O.D.O.K. after she had killed his top agent during a mission. Believing Gwen had fairly bested this agent, when in reality she simply pushed him into a furnace when he was distracted, M.O.D.O.K. threatened her in an attempt to convince her to join his mercenary agency. Gwen didn't take M.O.D.O.K.'s threat seriously, prompting the villain to vaporize Cecil in front of her as a display of power, leaving only his skull behind.[1]

Cecil returned

When Gwen contacted Doctor Strange to help her magically adapt the Prime Marvel Universe to her presence, as she was a being from another reality, thus she didn't have any kind of documentation to certify her existence. She also requested Strange to help her find a way to speak to Cecil.[2] Strange enchanted Cecil's skull, allowing his ghost to manifest in the world of the living. He was first summoned by Gwen to help her fight her boss.[3]

Cecil continued supporting Gwenpool as she became the new head of the organization following M.O.D.O.K.'s defeat.[4] He bonded particularly with one of their teammates, the occult expert Terrible Eye.[5]

While Cecil's confrontation with Vincent Doonan was unsuccessful because the Doombot's body was ghost-proof, he later helped Gwen rescue the rest of the M.O.D.O.K. team and defeat the Teuthidans, at the expense of the M.O.D.O.K. mobile base. The team decided to disband, and Cecil took the cue to revisit his family.[6] It went worse than expected, with the family feeling the ghost was an unholy abomination and trying to exorcise Cecil.[7]

Cecil as a ghost

Upon his reunion with Gwen, Cecil was brought to Terrible Eye to see if he could get a tangible body again. Sarah discovered an artifact that could help him, a gem discovered by Dwarves, and made a bathtub portal to a mobile door that would lead to it - said door being the Hell Charger's trunk. In the Dwarves' Hollywood mansion, Cecil recognized the gem and touched it, but wound up trapped inside the crystal. Hearing the police coming, Ghost Rider caught the gem, locked it in the trunk and drove back home. There, the spirit of Morrow tried to convince Cecil that the retribution for the wrongful death was not yet fulfilled - he had not exacted vengeance to the person that was truly at fault,[8] Gwen Poole. However, Cecil resisted Morrow's influence.

Cecil inhabiting the body of a Norse beast

After tracking down the Hell Charger, Gwenpool recovered the gem containing Cecil's soul. It was unfortunately the snatched from her hands by a group of dwarves, who took the gem to the Port of Los Angeles, where their peers intended to use it for a ritual of body-transferral with a mindless Norse monster. Gwenpool, Ghost Rider and Hawkeye caught up with the dwarves, who let loose the monster in an attempt to get rid of the heroes. Gwen recovered the gem, and Cecil convinced her to incrust it into the beast, transferring Cecil's soul into the monster's body. Now in possession of a physical body, Cecil threatened the dwarves into leaving Earth.[9]

Eventually, Gwenpool embarked on an adventure and managed to retrieve a magical scroll from Dormammu which could be used to restore Cecil's body. The ritual was performed in conjunction by Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Vincent Doonan and Terrible Eye. It separated Cecil from the Asgardian beast, and made the boy regain his human body. The beast remained by Cecil's side and became his pet.[10]
