My name is Century.
For longer than I can remember, I have traveled through space and time, a mariner on the tides of light. My battlestaff, Parallax, navigates my course, calculating the vast distances and opening gates in the fabric of space for me to pass through.
I am a construct, an artificial being of manufactured flesh and blood, into which has been woven a hundred different Minds, providing me with a hundred times the experience, knowledge and skill of a single Individual. My emphatic link with Parallax keeps those jostling minds in ordered sequence.
My Name is Century.
Of that much alone, I'm certain. My long odyssey through space-time has eroded my memory and left me without a clue as to the nature of my past. I do not know where I come from or why I was made, or even the name of my people. I was cast upon this blue-green Earth, to live amongst the strange human race and learn their ways. I know not why.
Now a dark specter from my yesterdays has returned, and with it, the opportunity to leave my foster home Earth and journey out into the stars in search of my past. The voyage will not be comforting. Or without dangers...

History

Early Life[]

After the Hodomur homeworld was destroyed by attacks from Lore and the Scatter, the surviving Hodomurians fled to their moon, Memoriam. There, they created Century an artificial being composed of the strongest and most capable among them. Designed with a 100-year lifespan, Century was tasked with tracking down and destroying Lore. During his search, Century encountered the Broker, who enslaved him. The Broker erased most of Century's memories, leaving only his deep-rooted drive to find Lore. He then sold Century to the Scatter, who needed someone to follow Lore in order to locate future feeding grounds. Over time, Century led them to many worlds. Years ago, Century led the Scatter to the planet Prashard, where a child who would later become the Broker's slave Skewer lost his family and everyone he loved. Despite this, Century continued to serve the Scatter.[1] Century eventually led the Scatter to the world of the "Last."[2]

Coming to Earth[]

Century was drawn to Earth by the Scarlet Witch’s hex powers. He aided Force Works in their battle against the Starstealth during a Kree attack. When they landed, he attempted to warn his new teammates about the Scatter, but was unable to fully explain the threat.[2] Century was taken to the Vault by Black Widow and Vision, but quickly teleported away to rejoin Iron Man. After P.L.A.T.O. analyzed Century and his staff, Parallax, Century revealed that the staff had recorded the Scatter's departure. Using this data, he teleported himself and Iron Man his first time transporting another person to the Scatter's world. Together, they rescued Force Works and used the Scatter's transmutation platform to return to Earth. Century then warned the team that he had detected a dimensional rift being used by the Scatter's invasion force headed for Earth.[3]

Joining Force Works[]

Century collaborated with Force Works to prepare a counter-strategy and was officially granted quarters at the Works HQ. He later accompanied the team to Houston, Texas to fend off the Scatter's initial assault. There, he realized that the Scatter had planted a device and recalled their strategy of using one devastated world to destroy the next. Century teleported with Scarlet Witch and U.S. Agent to the Scatter's energy source, where they were attacked by elite Scatter warriors. Realizing the Scatter were retracing his previous routes, Century coordinated with Scarlet Witch to alter their path. Their actions stopped the invasion, and he returned with them to Earth.[4]

Early one morning, Century observed from the kitchen as the team discussed whether to search for Hawkeye.[5] While watching Beavis & Butt-Head, Century was summoned for Force Works' mission to Slorenia. After being shot down by Ember, Century and the rest of the team were knocked unconscious. Upon waking, they faced Black Brigade. Meanwhile, Amanda Chaney, Force Works' public relations manager, was upset to learn from P.L.A.T.O. that Century had joined the team. She requested an immediate meeting with Iron Man and wanted to interview Century personally.[6] Century accompanied Force Works to meet the ruling council of Slorenia, the Tabissara. Later, Scarlet Witch enhanced his tracking abilities, allowing him to locate Ember's hideout in the ruins outside Tblunka. Century joined the team on the mission, battling Black Brigade alongside Spider-Woman and Iron Man. After Ember's death, Force Works returned to the U.S. on Iron Man's orders.[7]

Century was present when Spider-Woman informed the team about a shooting incident at Yancy's Mall in Ventura.[8] Century joined Force Works on a mission to Hong Kong, where they confronted the Mandarin’s Avatars. After defeating Q'Wake, Century sensed a familiar energy signature powering the Avatars. Driven to identify its origin, he teleported away—unintentionally leaving Spider-Woman vulnerable to Lich. Century reappeared at the Mandarin's stronghold, where he knocked out Warfist and aided War Machine in battle. However, the Mandarin struck them both with a powerful energy blast, causing them to vanish. Only Century's staff, Parallax, remained behind.[9][10][11][12]

Century and War Machine regained consciousness miles from the Mandarin's Castle. While discussing the extraterrestrial nature of the Mandarin's power, Century experienced intense pain and freed War Machine from his armor. As they traversed the desolate terrain, Century again felt the pain and began hearing voices. Under their influence, he briefly attacked War Machine before regaining control. They encountered a woman named Sun Yin, whom Century rescued from Warlord Chu. At her home, he spoke in multiple unfamiliar voices, a sign of his fractured psyche. After recovering War Machine’s armor, Century used his knowledge of the Mandarin's energy source to shield it from the anti-technology field. When Chu's troops attacked, Century fought alongside War Machine, but once again became unstable and was rendered ineffective.[13][12]

As Century struggled to maintain control, he and War Machine were confronted by Warlord Chu, who offered to ally with them against the Mandarin. They accepted and accompanied Chu’s army.[14] While at Chu’s camp, Century briefly collapsed before recovering and riding with War Machine, Su Yin, and Chu's forces toward the Mandarin’s castle. Along the way, they reunited with the rest of Force Works.[15] Century discussed strategies with Tony Stark to counteract the Mandarin's anti-tech field. When Chu turned on them in a jealous rage, Century again lost control and was unable to act. After Chu's departure, Century traveled with Force Works and Chu’s former soldiers to Hong Kong. He confided in Scarlet Witch about his inner conflict. In Hong Kong, he fought alongside the team to reach a Stark Enterprises facility, where he helped develop a resistance module to protect Iron Man’s armor from the Mandarin’s energy field. He then joined Force Works in another assault on the Mandarin’s base.[16]

Century observed Iron Man's battle with the Mandarin. Afterward, he warned the team that the Mandarin had yet to fully master his powers. Back at Stark Enterprises, Century admitted he had traveled to the Mandarin alone after sensing the presence of the Ten Rings. He was stunned to discover that the Mandarin’s secondary power source was the Heart of Darkness. His insight helped Iron Man realize that the items were drawn to the Mandarin's nature, giving him the key to undo the threat. During a final battle with the Mandarin’s Avatars, Century fought alongside Force Works until Iron Man surrendered to execute his plan. The Mandarin was ultimately defeated, and Parallax was returned to Century.[17]

On Christmas Eve, Century was watching A Christmas Carol on TV. He spoke with Amanda Chaney about his dislike of the holiday. Disturbing flashbacks forced him to sit and reflect. He watched a video of himself discussing his past in hopes of unlocking his lost memories.[18] Later, Amanda interviewed Century in her office. They discussed his symbiotic bond with Parallax and how the separation had destabilized the many personalities that made up his being. Century shared that memory fragments were slowly resurfacing and thanked Amanda for her empathy. Afterward, he attended Wonder Man’s funeral.[19] At the funeral, Century remained on the sidelines, telling Amanda that he blamed himself for Wonder Man's death. Amanda assured him that he wasn’t responsible and encouraged him to honor Wonder Man’s legacy by continuing to serve.[20]

Century accompanied Force Works on a mission to Australia, where they encountered monstrous dream creatures spawned from the mind of Alf Robbins. Once Robbins was calmed, he led the team to the last known location of his partner, Shane Mundy. There, Force Works was attacked by a massive dream construct.[19] While trapped in a nightmare, Century fought off numerous doppelgängers of himself until he finally awoke. The team was soon guided by Willie Walkaway to a mysterious alien known as the Orphan. As the being's energy levels surged, more dream creatures manifested and attacked. When Mundy died inside the Orphan, the threats dissipated. Walkaway was transformed into Orphan's guardian, the Dreamguard, and Century departed Australia alongside his teammates.[20]

Century witnessed Iron Man's battle with the Mandarin. Afterward, he warned the team that the Mandarin had yet to fully master his powers. Back at Stark Enterprises, Century admitted he had traveled to the Mandarin alone after sensing the presence of the rings. He was stunned to discover that the Mandarin's secondary power source was the Heart of Darkness. His insight helped Iron Man realize that the items were drawn to the Mandarin's nature, giving him the key to undo the threat. During a final battle with the Mandarin's Avatars, Century fought alongside Force Works until Iron Man surrendered to execute his plan. The Mandarin was ultimately defeated, and Parallax was returned to Century.[17] Century was present when Force Works in aided Free Spirit and Jack Flag against the Serpent Society.[21]

Following a warning from War Machine about disturbing developments in Slorenia, Century and the rest of Force Works voted to investigate. While his teammates operated covertly on the ground, Century remained aboard the hex-ship Pegasus, maintaining communications. Without warning, the android Recorder struck him from behind and rendered him unconscious.[22] Upon regaining consciousness, Century attacked the Recorder in a brutal confrontation. He ultimately decapitated the android and teleported to Slorenia, arriving in time to strike Ember into Volkhvy's Program destroying both the machine and Ember. With the battle over, Century returned to the United States with Force Works, bringing the remains of the rogue Recorder to the Vault.[23] Soon after, Century joined the team in responding to a breakout attempt by the Starstealth Kree within the Vault. After locating the source of the disruption, Century attempted to reach it but was blocked by force fields. Iron Man stepped in and short-circuited the Recorder, neutralising the threat. Shortly afterward, the Avengers and War-Crimes Tribunal representatives arrived to take custody of the Starstealth.[24]

Century later trained with Spider-Woman and U.S. Agent in the Works’ Vroom Room, facing holographic simulations of Ember and Black Brigade.[25] He then joined a combined team of Avengers and Force Works members aboard the War-Crimes Tribunal's starship. There, he learned from the Rigellians that the rogue Recorder had been modified by the Kree. When the ship’s controls were sabotaged, Century rushed to the Rigellian tech lab but found the Recorder absent. After teleporting Starstealth prisoners aboard, he eliminated one named Zamsed . He then transported himself and Scarlet Witch to the Recorder's location, allowing Wanda to destroy the android once and for all. With the crisis resolved, Century looked out at Earth from orbit, wondering if his own lost home was as beautiful.[26]

Return of the Broker[]

Sometime later, Century was ambushed by a slaver named Broker and his minions. Recognising them, he escaped into a hidden chamber beneath the Works' base. Resurfacing, Century rescued U.S. Agent and brought him to the underground chamber. There, he explained that Broker had once enslaved him and was responsible for the brain-stem parasites embedded in his captives. Working together, they fooled Broker by having P.L.A.T.O. create an illusion of Century. While Broker was distracted, Century severed his hand, which bore the control bracelet. When one of the slaves, Skewer, attempted to kill Broker, Century intervened, explaining that Broker was still needed to help them return to their home planets. Bidding farewell to U.S. Agent, Century left Earth with the liberated slaves, determined to learn more about his past and return each of them to their worlds.[27] During their journey, Century once again stopped Skewer from executing Broker, reiterating the importance of keeping him alive to complete their mission.[28]

Century experienced a disturbing nightmare tied to his past and awoke aboard Broker's ship. Discovering that Broker's navigation files were still unencrypted, he confronted him for the locations of the remaining enslaved crew members' homeworlds. Kiwi was successfully returned to his planet, and Century selected Onyx to be the next. However, Century was ambushed by his crew, now once again under Broker's control via brain-stem parasites. Century himself was implanted with a parasite and imprisoned. Broker revealed that Slug, still secretly under his control via nanites, had helped reassert his dominance. Century was brought to the planet Memoriam, where Broker revealed the truth of Century's origins and his role in the destruction of Prashard. Broker then sold Century to a mysterious woman named Imogen, whom Century vaguely recognized from a forgotten time. Imogen and her companions, including the warrior 30, were transported by Century to a neighboring dimension, where they were captured in a force bubble and taken by Azimuth to her city. Azimuth freed Century from the parasite and tried to explain Imogen's past, but was attacked before she could finish. Century pursued Imogen, defeating 30, but was stopped by Imogen herself. Broker soon arrived and launched an assault on the city. During the chaos, his control over the slaves finally failed, and Century decapitated him. With Imogen's former allies Nohm and 30, Century returned to the ship. Uncertain how long he had left to live, he asked Skewer to set a course for Earth his chosen home.[1]

Return to Earth[]

Upon returning, Century found Iron Man and the mysterious Cybermancer at Force Works HQ. Iron Man, acting erratically, asked for his help, but Century grew suspicious when Stark threatened Rachel Carpenter. After rescuing her, he was attacked by Cybermancer.[29] Century brought Rachel to safety, then teleported to the Works’ hidden subbasement, where he discovered Amanda Chaney's body. Cybermancer ambushed him, and he defeated her in combat. From the computer VIRGIL, Century learned that Earth would soon be bombarded with high-band temporal energy. He brought Amanda’s body outside and met with U.S. Agent, War Machine, and Black Widow. Once Force Works reunited, Century explained Stark’s plan and teleported Black Widow and Moonraker to Avengers Mansion.[30]

At Avengers Mansion, Century informed the Avengers of the imminent temporal strike and revealed that Moonraker was the reincarnation of Libra. He teleported Crystal, Vision, and Moonraker to Stark's Arctic bunker, where they battled a massive tank construct. Century saved Vision during the battle, and later escaped the collapsing structure with Crystal, Moonraker was lost in the timestream.[31] Century was present when Neut attacked Avengers Mansion and was briefly knocked unconscious.[32] He later joined the Avengers in battling the Anachronauts and guided the team through a temporal rift, instructing them to follow the entity Parallax to their destinies.[33] Upon returning from the time-stream, Century helped teleport the Avengers into Stark's bunker.[34] He fought alongside them against Immortus (posing as Kang) and his forces.[35]

Following Stark's apparent death, Century watched his final message with Scarlet Witch and confided in her his desire to remain on Earth though he did not reveal his feelings for her. When Force Works was attacked from within by a version of Wonder Man, Century was knocked unconscious.[36] He comforted Wanda afterward and helped confront Cybermancer and her allies. When Ultron began to destabilize, Century teleported Force Works and the extradimensional beings back to Kang's time-gate. Ultron dissolved, Wonder Man returned to his dying timeline, and the portal exploded. The team chose to disband afterward, and Century decided to travel Earth to better understand his adopted home.[37]

Revengers[]

Century later Century agreed to join the Revengers when Wonder Man began recruiting disillusioned former heroes to challenge the Avengers' legitimacy.[38] The Revengers launched a brutal surprise assault on Avengers Mansion, catching the resident Avengers completely off guard. The sheer ferocity and speed of the attack overwhelmed the team, and even support personnel such as Victoria Hand and Wong were placed in immediate danger.[39] Despite the Avengers' efforts, the Revengers decisively defeated them, with the Thing being the last to fall in the chaotic battle. The mansion sustained severe damage during the assault. Victorious, the Revengers then set their sights on Avengers Tower. Upon reaching Avengers Tower, the Revengers caused significant structural damage before pausing to deliver a public media address. In it, Wonder Man and his allies denounced the Avengers, accusing them of corruption, irresponsibility, and contributing to cycles of destruction. Before the Revengers could press further, the Avengers regrouped and launched a counterattack. Wonder Man was quickly neutralised in the opening moments of the confrontation. The remaining Revengers were teleported to Citi Field, where the Avengers rapidly subdued and defeated them. Following their capture, each member of the Revengers was interrogated regarding their reasons for joining the team and their grievances against the Avengers.[38]

Deadpool[]

During a chance meeting at a bustling coffee shop, Century crossed paths with Nightwatch, the vigilante with a dark past; Death's Head, the relentless freelance peacekeeping cyborg; and Deadpool, who was actively promoting a new comic series centered on the cybernetic hero Raze. The day took an unexpected turn when Raze, accompanied by his formidable allies, the Man-Comdoes, launched a sudden and violent assault. Despite the chaotic attack, the other heroes present notably declined to intervene or assist Deadpool in the ensuing battle, leaving him to face the threat alone.[40]
