History

Not much is known about the Chameleon's history, but part of his life had similarities with the Earth-92131 Chameleon. Like the Earth-92131 version, this Chameleon also blew up a U.S. Embassy in Istanbul, which first brought him to the attention of Colonel Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.[1] In Rome, Chameleon similarly attacked a military post but escaped by disguising himself as the Pope.[1]

Chameleon eventually took a job to assassinate two diplomats who were intent on signing a peace treaty. This brought J. Jonah Jameson (who was hosting a party to celebrate the event) and indirectly brought Spider-Man into the case with Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.[1] Chameleon managed to steal a copy of the party's security plans at the Daily Bugle without being chased, unlike his Earth-92131 counterpart.[1][2]

At Jameson's party, Chameleon managed to enter with ease, and tried to disguise himself as Nick Fury. However unknown to him, the photo he used of Fury was flipped and so his disguise had the eyepatch on the wrong eye. Spider-Man detected this and foiled his plan, however the Chameleon managed to escape. Chameleon decided to assassinate the diplomats at the signing the next day while in disguise as Peter Parker, but was again stopped by Spider-Man, who destroyed his energy belt and captured him.

Chameleon likely perished when Earth-TRN566 was destroyed.[3]

Notes

  • Unlike the Chameleon of Spider-Man (1994 animated series), this version of Chameleon is shown to be able to talk while in his real form.[1]
  • The Earth-92131 Chameleon attacked a military post in Rome just like the Earth-TRN566 Chameleon, but was said to have escaped disguised as a clergyman, instead of the Pope.[2] In the same episode, the Earth-92131 Nick Fury said his last encounter with the Chameleon was in Sarajevo,[2] but this was not mentioned in the comic adaptation.
  • Spider-Man Adventures only adapted "Day of the Chameleon" and not any other subsequent episode with the Chameleon in it. Additionally, the Chameleon never appeared again in either Spider-Man Adventures or Adventures of Spider-Man. As a result, it is not known if Earth-TRN566's Chameleon is the stepson of the Red Skull similar to the Earth-92131 Chameleon, or if he was Dmitri Smerdyakov like the Chameleon of Earth-616.
