History
500,000 BC[]
Iao-Thamungazoth was one of the Lords of Chaos and Lords of Darkness worshiped by the Dragon Kings of Lemuria,[1] half a million years ago. The Lords of Darkness were opposed to by the Lords of Light, worshipped by Father Gorm and the Nineteen Gods.[5]
The Dragon-Kings offered him sacrifice to feed their growing power. When the adventurers Sharjsha, Sumia Chond, and Karm Karvus came to the Castle of the Dragon Kings, on the four Dragon Isles of the inland Sea of Neol-Shendis, Sssaaa, High Priest of the Dragon Kings intended to sacrifice the three of them to the Lord of Chaos at the Altar of the Monoliths, to provide them the life-energies they required to cross the intercosmic gulfs to Earth.
As the hour of the equinox came, Sssaaa was about to perform the sacrifice before the Lords of Chaos, whose faces appeared in the sky. The ceremony was interrupted by Thongor, who was soon assisted by Father Gorm who stroke down all the Dragon Kings.[1]

Notes
- The Lords of Chaos, including Arioch, the Duke of Chaos, were created by Michael Moorcock.
- The Lords of Chaos are seemingly tied to the Great Old Ones, and could another of their many names.
- Many of the identified Lords of Chaos are Old Ones: Shuma-Gorath and Erlik Khan (both created by Marvel Comics, using names respectively created and used by Robert E. Howard), and Iao-Thamungazoth (created by Lin Carter in "The Wizard of Lemuria" and adapted in Creatures on the Loose #29, yet wasn't explicitely mentioned as an Old One in the adaptation).
- Arioch (or another being going by the same name) served Shuma-Gorath.
- It remains unknown if the Dark Lords, allegedly progenitors of the Slorgs,[5] are the Lords of Darkness, also mentioned in the adaptations of Thongor tales in Creatures on the Loose.
