Arlene is Tracy Collins' older sister. She lived for a time in Chicago, and dated a handsome man named Tony, but Tony was scarred in an accident; Arlene tried to treat him the same way, but they eventually had a big fight and broke up for good.[252] Arlene then moved to Manhattan and remained single, and trying to date a number of men.[253] Arlene owned a small caliber gun,[254][255] but didn't like shooting at people. She also owned a car and could drive.[254] At some point, Arlene may have taken a photo of Arlene with the later's family, husband Michael Collins, son Nick and cat Pascal.[256] After Arlene got pregnant of Michael a second time, Michael went supposedly missing on a government job involving SHIELD, but Arlene discovered that Michael had became the hideous cyborg vigilante Deathlok. When Arlene discovered her pregnancy, he contacted Michael through SHIELD, then called Arlene to visit her in her Paterson, to tell her both news[257] - which she hadn't shared with Nick yet.[252] Deathlok returned home,[257] and Arlene found him difficult to deal with, though she stayed overnight.[252] The following day, the Collins were visited by a clone of Michael's dead coworker Billy Hansen. "Hansen" explained how the creature Biohazard resurrected him for information, and how Biohazard was a threat to Deathlok; but Arlene was skeptic and, aiming her gun at "Hansen", pointed out inconsistencies in his story. Overcame, "Hansen" revealed that the monster Biohazard was hidden in the body. Arlene, scared, shoot at him twice, to no avail. Tracy then asked Arlene to start the car for the family to escape, while Tracy went upstairs to pick up Nick.[254] After Biohazard was killed,[258] Arlene gave Tracy her gun, seeing Tracy may need extra protection.[255] Soon afterward, Tracy's home was attacked by the Hobgoblin. Arlene tried to use Tracy's gun against him, but it was useless.[255] The Collins house was destroyed, and the family had no savings to rebuild it,[253] so Tracy and her two children, Nick and Patricia, moved temporarily with Arlene,[259][253], with Michael not going with them for their protection and meeting them midway frequently.[259] Arlene repeated told Tracy that being married to a cyborg would not work out in the end,[253][260] even though Tracy insisted to Arlene that Michael's morals had been her reason to marry him.[260] With Arlene's finances growing thinner,[261] she eventually left Manhattan without telling Michael where she was going. When Michael went to visit at Arlene's, she refused to believe that, although Arlene claimed that Tracy should have done it a long time ago as Michael was hurting her and putting her in danger.[262] Eventually Michael made peace with Tracy, and admitted that a separation made sense.[263] Tracy Collins's maiden name has not been revealed yet, so Arlene's surname is unknown. In Deathlok (Vol. 2) #27, Tracy called Arlene "Miss Thing", but this may have been a humorous nickname. |
