Abigail Brand's Symbiote[]

Abigail Thanriaguiaxus (Earth-616) from Spider-Man and the X-Men Vol 1 5 001 Appearances: Spider-Man and the X-Men #4 and Spider-Man and the X-Men #5

A horde of malicious symbiotes took over a group of Brood and used them to attack S.W.O.R.D.. Draining their Brood hosts of vitality, the symbiotes took over the human personnel of S.W.O.R.D. - including Abigail Brand - and devoured the corpses.

Confronted by Spider-Man and his class of young mutants, Abigail was confronted by her lover at the time, Beast, who managed to force the symbiote off her after a lengthy fight; containing it and jettisoning it into space with the others.[1]

Aja-Adanna's Symbiote[]

Shuri (Earth-616) from King in Black Black Panther Vol 1 1 001 Appearances: King in Black: Black Panther #1

When a symbiote-dragon broke through the barrier protecting Wakanda and began spawning a horde of offshoots to overrun the country, T'Challa sent his sister Shuri to help fend off the symbiote-infected citizens and serve as bait to keep the symbiote-dragon distracted, thereby buying General Okoye time to activate the Hand of Bast - a superweapon combining magic and technology that had been created to battle the Phoenix - and T'Challa time to repair one of Klaw's sonic arm-cannons.

Shuri was taken over by one of the symbiote-dragon's offshoots and hunted her brother down, viciously berating him for having given her over to Knull. The "Knullified" Shuri mocked T'Challa, saying Klaw's sonic emitter was too weak to save her - let alone harm the symbiote-dragon - and tried to infect him with an offshoot of her symbiote. T'Challa managed to free himself and refuted Knull's assertion of superiority over Wakanda, firing Klaw's sonic emitter at the barrier - which amplified the sonic waves enough to destroy the symbiotes attacking Wakanda.[2]

Alice's Mother's Symbiote[]

Alice's mother (Earth-616) from Daredevil Vol 6 26 001 Appearances: Daredevil (Vol. 6) #26 and Daredevil (Vol. 6) #27

While arguing with her teenaged daughter Alice, who had lied about her age to sneak into a bar and flirt with older men, an unnamed woman was taken over by a symbiote spawned from a marauding symbiote-dragon. "Knullified", she attempted to forcibly bond her daughter to an offshoot of her symbiote so they could be a family again, two mothers and two daughters united in service to Knull. Alice was rescued by the new Daredevil, Elektra Natchios, causing her mother to furiously attack the antihero. Despite being run over by a car, Alice's mother tracked her daughter down and tried to persuade her to join the Symbiote Hive, but her fight with Daredevil was interrupted by the also-Knullified Typhoid Mary.[3]

When Mary declared her intent to kill both Daredevil and Alice as a tribute to Knull, Alice's mother argued that bonding them to symbiotes would serve Knull better, giving him two more soldiers for his crusade. When Mary retorted that Knull ultimately sought the end of all life, Alice's mother furiously attacked her to protect her daughter - buying time for Daredevil to escape with Alice. Ultimately both Alice's mother and her symbiote were overpowered and killed by Typhoid Mary.[4]

Ampere's Symbiote[]

Ampere (Earth-616) from King in Black Thunderbolts Vol 1 1 001 Appearances: King in Black: Thunderbolts #1

During Knull's invasion of Earth, a symbiote-dragon attacked Mayor Fisk's Thunderbolts team, who were en route to Ravencroft to consult Norman Osborn. While the symbiote-dragon was slain by Star, some of its living abyss latched onto the corpse of Ampere - who had been killed by Mister Fear when he attempted to defect from the team - and reanimated him. The "Knullified" Ampere hunted down the team, but was killed again by Taskmaster - who had electrified his sword using one of Ampere's bracelets.[5]

Andrew Breen's Symbiote[]

Andrew Breen (Earth-616) from Absolute Carnage Weapon Plus Vol 1 1 0001 Appearances: Absolute Carnage: Weapon Plus #1

Recruited into Weapon V, Doctor Andrew Breen began experimenting with samples of living abyss taken from the symbiote-dragon codenamed the Grendel, attempting to engineer suits of bio-armor and figure out why the prototypes used by the original Sym-Soldier Program had backfired so horribly.

Determining that the symbiotes were part of a hive-mind, Breen hypothesized they were connected to a malignant entity that compelled them to devour and destroy everything they encountered, but his theory was dismissed by his colleagues. Determined to prove his theory by seeing the world as the symbiotes did, Breen appropriated a sample of living abyss and began using it as eyedrops. Succumbing to the symbiote hive's influence, following Carnage's attack on the Weapon V headquarters he tricked the surviving members into picking a fight with Carnage, which resulted in all of them being killed and eaten.[6]

Angel's Symbiote[]

Warren Worthington III (Earth-616) from X-Men Blue Vol 1 21 001 Appearances: X-Men: Blue #21, Venom #162, X-Men: Blue #22, and Venom #163

Abducted from the planet Klyntar by the alien arms-dealer Haze Mancer, this symbiote was about to be sold as a bio-weapon when it was accidentally freed by Angel and bonded to him.[7] Following an altercation with the Poison Hive that led to Marvel Girl being consumed,[8] Angel was forced to immolate his symbiote to avoid being consumed when an unbound Poison latched onto them.[9]

Av-Rom's Symbiote[]

Av-Rom (Earth-616) from Web Of Venom- Empyre's End Vol 1 1 001 Appearances: Web of Venom: Empyre's End #1 and King in Black: Wiccan and Hulkling #1

After Talos was dispatched with a task-force to investigate planets at the periphery of the Kree/Skrull Alliance going dark and picked up a derelict escape pod that was discovered to contain symbiotes, Av-Rom was forcibly bonded to one of them. Held captive in the cargo bay as bait, Av-Rom was used as a mouthpiece by Knull to taunt Talos and Tarna when they attempted to rescue him and escape.

The symbiote was seemingly killed alongside its host when Talos' ship self-destructed,[10] but it survived and was dispatched alongside Keeyah, Tarna, and Virtue to assassinate Emperor Dorrek VIII. Av-Rom and the others attacked the Emperor and his husband Wiccan at the Shi'ar resort planet of Little Chandilar, but were subdued and taken back to the Alliance for treatment.[11]

Brainstorm's Symbiote[]

Valeria Richards (Earth-616) from Fantastic Four Vol 6 30 001 Appearances: Fantastic Four (Vol. 6) #30

When the "Knullified" Sky led a horde of symbiote-dragons to attack Powerhouse, Brainstorm, Bentley-23, and Dragon Man, a symbiote latched onto Brainstorm while she was distracted and "Knullified" her.

Under the symbiote's influence, Brainstorm shut down the Forever Gate to prevent it being used as an escape mechanism and cruelly mocked her brother for his powerlessness, prompting him to take a lightning cannon built by Bentley-23 and blast the symbiote off her.[13]

Cable's Symbiote[]

Nathan Summers (Kid Cable) (Earth-616) from S.W.O.R.D. Vol 2 2 001 Appearances: King in Black #2, S.W.O.R.D. (Vol. 2) #2, S.W.O.R.D. (Vol. 2) #3, and S.W.O.R.D. (Vol. 2) #4

When Knull invaded Earth, Cable was dispatched alongside several other members of the X-Men by the Quiet Council of Krakoa to assist in combating the dark god's assault. Bored after effortlessly killing the Sentry, Knull infected the assembled heroes - including Cable - with symbiotes.[14]

Knull remote-piloted Cable in order to attack Krakoa after the symbiote-dragon he'd sent was slain.[15] Cable defeated the X-Men and Knull metastasized the symbiote-dragon's living abyss into a carnivorous tree, deciding which of the mutants he deemed worthy of enslaving as soldiers and which of them he would feed to the symbiote-tree.

When Manifold returned to Krakoa, Knull used Cable to battle him -- delighting in the mutant's psionic powers. The Knullified Cable was able to defeat Manifold, but his cybernetic arm was ripped off by Frenzy, buying Manifold time to free Cable from Knull's control by conjuring a miniature star and using it to immolate his symbiote.[16]

Captain America's Symbiotes[]

Captain America's First Symbiote[]

Steven Rogers (Earth-616) and Captain America's Symbiote (Earth-616) from Spectacular Spider-Man Super Special Vol 1 1 0001 Appearances: Spectacular Spider-Man Super Special #1

The unnamed symbiote was one of countless Symbiotes that came to Earth after the Symbiote Hive responded to Venom's psychic scream after Eddie Brock's rejection.[17] The symbiote bonded to Captain America and took control of him.[18] The symbiote presumably died when Venom rebonded with Eddie Brock and let out another psychic scream that caused it and its fellow symbiotes to commit suicide.[19]

Captain America's Third Symbiote[]

Bored after effortlessly killing the Sentry, Knull infected the assembled heroes - including the Thing with symbiotes.[14] The "Knullified" Captain America was eventually freed from Knull's control by Dylan Brock,[20] though Rogers was haunted by hallucinations through the codex it had left within him.[21]

Carmilla Black's Neo-Symbiote[]

Carmilla Black (Earth-616), Carmilla Black's Neo-Symbiote (Earth-616), MacDonald Gargan (Earth-616), and Venom (Symbiote) (Earth-616) from Spider-Man Family Vol 2 3 001 Appearances: Spider-Man Family (Vol. 2) #3

During the first Superhuman Civil War, Carmilla Black engaged in visible superhero activities as part of a S.H.I.E.L.D. operation to get her recruited by anti-registration heroes. Instead, she attracted the attention of Mac Gargan, the former Scorpion, who had recently acquired the Venom symbiote but was still protective of his old name and outraged she was using it. Though physically outmatched, her stinger created a neo-symbiote from Venom's webs and proved very harmful to the Venom symbiote itself, allowing her to quickly turn the tide and send him fleeing. The neo-symbiote rapidly died as her body was too toxic to sustain it for more than a few minutes.[22]

Choir's Symbiote[]

Choir (Ruth) (Earth-616) from Union Vol 1 2 001 Appearances: Union #2

When a symbiote-dragon attacked the United Kingdom, it came into conflict with the recently assembled Britannia Project - a team of superheroes assembled from across the United Kingdom. The symbiote-dragon was defeated by Britannia, but managed to both fatally wound her and spawn several offshoots.[23] One of these offshoots took over Britannia's teammate Choir, who had been devastated by Britannia's death and quickly succumbed to the symbiote's control - Knull promising to protect and empower her if she agreed to serve him.

When her teammates tracked her down, Choir took a child hostage and threatened to kill him, mocking them for thinking the symbiote had corrupted her. Union Jack - who unbeknownst to the others had been possessed by Britannia's spirit - attempted to talk her down, but Choir sneered at the notion of the team being successful given the fractured political state of the United Kingdom. With Union Jack keeping Choir distracted, their teammates were able to free Choir from her symbiote by electrocuting it - though Choir begged it not to leave her.[24]

Colossus' Symbiote[]

Colussus symbiote (Earth-616) and Piotr Rasputin (Earth-616) from Venomized Vol 1 1 Appearances: Venomized #1 and Venomized #4

It was sealed in a bullet and was used to shoot Colossus when he shielded Katy Pryde, empowering him to fend off Poison Feral and Poison Domino.[25] It was later seen bonded to Colossus when the Poisons found them at Alchemax.[26] It was presumably separated from Colossus by Alchemax and returned to Klyntar along with its brethren.

Conan's Symbiote[]

Conan's Symbiote (Earth-616) from Savage Avengers Vol 1 3 001 Appearances: Free Comic Book Day 2019 (Avengers/Savage Avengers) #1, Savage Avengers #1, Savage Avengers #2, Savage Avengers #3, Savage Avengers #4, Savage Avengers #5, Savage Avengers #17, Savage Avengers #18, Savage Avengers #19, Savage Avengers #20, Savage Avengers #21, Savage Avengers #22, Savage Avengers #23, Savage Avengers #24, Savage Avengers #25

A symbiote that came to Earth thousands of years ago, during the Hyborian Age. Before it could find a host, it was captured, imprisoned in an enchanted bottle meant for holding genies, and went through several hands before it was obtained by a merchant who thought it was an ancient jinn. The merchant used the symbiote as a marketing ploy to attract customers, but it was eventually purchased by Mekri Ra, the Sorcerer Supreme at the time. Although Mekri Ra refused to bond with the symbiote, he still wanted to learn from it and they became friends. One day, the evil sorcerer Kulan Gath attacked and killed Mekri Ra for his power, and then tried to consume the symbiote for its power.[27]

Failing to do so, Kulan Gath then re-imprisoned the symbiote and tortured it for so long that it went insane from isolation. When Gath relocated to the City of Sickles, he brought the symbiote with him intending to use it as bait to attract Venom. When Conan of Cimmeria attempted to steal the Third Eye of Agamotto and was attacked by Kulan Gath, he smashed the bottle and unleashed the symbiote. The symbiote vengefully attempted to bond to Kulan Gath, but was repelled and tortured using Hellfire, letting out a scream of agony that alerted another of its kind, the Venom symbiote, to its suffering.[28]

Escaping and recovering, the symbiote heard Kulan Gath torturing Logan and set out to save him. Coming across Conan having been impaled through the chest by Kulan Gath, the symbiote bonded to him and healed his wounds, covering his right arm and manifesting a Necrosword similar to All-Black and the Symbio Sword/Venom Blade. The symbiote commanded its new host to kill their enemies, Conan mistaking its mental voice for that of his patron deity Crom and obliging - thereby providing Kulan Gath with the means of summoning the eldritch god Jhoatun Lau to Earth.[29] While the symbiote assisted Conan for as long as it could,[30] it ultimately perished while trying to heal his wounds.[31]

Several months later, Conan's symbiote was resurrected when he was attacked by a symbiote dragon during the symbiote-god Knull's invasion of Earth; the symbiote dragon's living abyss interfacing with the codex the lesser symbiote had left within its host. The symbiote demanded Conan rebond to it so that they could seek revenge against Kulan Gath for the centuries of torture he had subjected them both to, though he was wary of it.[32] The symbiote told Conan its backstory and why it desired revenge on Kulan Gath. Too old to fight on its own, the symbiote asked Conan to help it get revenge on Kulan Gath in exchange for using it as a weapon. Conan agreed to be the symbiote's partner until Kulan Gath was dead.[27] In a possible future timeline where he emerged victorious, Kulan Gath tore the symbiote from Conan's body and devoured it.[33]

Taken over himself, Daredevil was psychically connected to Knull, who introduced himself as the God of the symbiotes and attempted to persuade Daredevil to give in to his power and become unstoppable.[3] Rejecting Knull as the Devil and reaffirming his faith, the "Knullified" Daredevil regained control of his body through sheer force of will - surprising Knull - and dragged himself to the execution chamber, strapping himself into the electric chair. Daredevil succumbed to Knull's will just before he could flip the activation switch, but it was flipped by Marcus - a fellow inmate who'd previously been disdainful towards Daredevil, killing the symbiote and freeing Daredevil from its control.[4]

Having been assigned to guard the comatose Cletus Kasady, Elmer accepted and murdered his partner. Cletus regained consciousness and Elmer accidentally unleashed the Carnage symbiote, resulting in Carnage killing him and assimilating his symbiote to grow more powerful; later torturing the assimilated symbiote for information regarding the ongoing invasion.[18] The symbiote later committed suicide with most of the other members of the invasion force, returning Carnage to normal.[19]

One of the few members of the Symbiote Hive's first invasion of Earth to survive the Venom symbiote's psychic scream of despair, the symbiote bonded to a man named George Strickland opted to give up its kind's bloodthirsty ways and sought to live in harmony with its host.

George and his symbiote were sought out by Donna Diego, host of the Scream symbiote, who sought to redeem herself for her murder of the other Life Foundation symbiotes' hosts by finding as many survivors as she could and helping them adapt to human society. Unfortunately, the Symbiote Invasion had drawn a Xenophage to Earth, who began hunting down the survivors and eating their heads. When Donna brought George to her apartment to hide, George and his symbiote lashed out at her for failing to protect the other refugees, leading to a fight between them and Scream. Jubulile van Scotter (Earth-616) from Carnage Vol 2 16 002

Empowered by the Darkhold

Jubulile was initially unable to manifest the symbiote beyond it imbuing her with superhuman abilities, but when Carnage summoned the eldritch god Chthon she assimilated the Toxin and Raze symbiotes into it. Due to Jubulile lacking any hatred or malice in her heart, once manifested the symbiote - unlike its progenitor and siblings - lacked the fangs and claws customary of its ilk.

Further empowered by the psychic energies of the world through the Darkhold's eldritch magic, Jubulile's symbiote transformed into an angelic knight and became powerful enough to banish Chthon back into K'lay, but the symbiote and its absorbed siblings seemingly perished immediately afterwards - dissolving into pink smoke.[43]

With their strength enhanced by these symbiotes, Killer Thrill's crew assaulted the Starjammer, capturing its crew with the intent to auction them off to the highest bidder.[7]

Just prior to their schedule meeting with the Brood, Killer Thrill's ship was attacked by the time-displaced X-Men, who had bonded to their own symbiotes. As the two Symbiote-enhanced teams came into conflict, a third ship approached.[8]

Killer Thrill believed this to be her buyers and ran to the cargo bay, followed closely behind by the X-Men's Marvel Girl. Unfortunately for the two, the third ship belonged to the Hive and a representative, Kraven the Hunter explained to them the Poisons' goal, before forcefully bonding the symbiote and its host to their own Poison, killing Killer Thrill and silencing the symbiote's consciousness.[8]

At some point following his creation of All-Black, the primordial dark god Knull manifested a suit of symbiote-armor from the living abyss.[45] Knull wore the symbiote-armor throughout his reign as the god-king of the symbiotes and his war against the Light, with it aiding him in his battles against the Silver Surfer and entire armies of gods.[46][47][45] Knull used its constituent living abyss to manifest both the symbiote dragon later known as the Grendel and the first of the lesser symbiotes.[48][45]

Original draconic helmet.

After Knull's connection to the symbiote hive-mind was severed, his armor remained one of the few symbiotes subservient to him,[45] but was seemingly stripped from him by the rebelling symbiotes after they imprisoned him in the core of the symbiote throneworld.[49][46] Knull's avatar manifested from the Grendel symbiote-dragon wore a facsimile of the armor,[50] attempting to assimilate the Tyrannosaurus and Venom symbiotes into it.[49] When Knull broke free from his prison, he immediately reformed his symbiote-armor in preparation for resuming his conquest of the cosmos, assimilated Wraith's Exolon into it, and used its living abyss to manifest All-Black.[51][52]

At some point prior to arriving on Earth, Knull changed his symbiote-armor's appearance - sporting a sleeker cuirass with straight-tailed dragon emblems, and spikes on its pauldrons; and after arriving on Earth forcibly absorbed the Venom symbiote into his armor and manifested it as a serrated blade on Knull's right arm.[14][53] During his battle with Thor Odinson, Knull manifested All-Black from his symbiote-armor and used it to impale Thor.[20]

Reinforced

When confronting the Silver Surfer in preparation for resuming their ancient duel, Knull transformed his symbiote-armor into a more combat-oriented form. However, Eddie -- who had been transformed into Captain Universe -- interceded and ultimately ripped Knull's armor off in retribution for Knull having torn off the Venom symbiote.[54]

Logan's Second Symbiote[]

Logan's Third Symbiote (Earth-616) and James Howlett (Earth-21923) from Venomized Vol 1 1 Appearances: Venomized #1

Abducted from the planet Klyntar alongside millions of its brethren by the Poisons in preparation for their conquest of Earth,[9] this symbiote was genetically altered using research obtained from the symbiote arms dealer Haze Mancer in order to hasten its bonding process and make it more difficult to separate from its host. When the Poisons attacked Xavier Institute for Mutant Education and Outreach, Logan lunged towards the intruders before getting shot by them and bonded to the symbiote. Soon after Symbiote Logan would brawl with Poison Wolverine. Logan was later seen at Avengers HQ. Where he remarked that the ones who attacked the school resembled the members of X-Force, even had a Wolverine.[25] The symbiote was then seen alongside Logan fighting against the Poisons in Alchemax with the other symbiote-augmented heroes.[26] The symbiote was presumably separated from Logan by Alchemax and sent back to Klyntar along with its brethren.

Bonded to Lucius Marius.

In the time of the Roman Empire, a symbiote arrived on Earth and was obtained by a wicked sorceress who infiltrated a city under siege by the Imperial army.

When the bloodthirsty Roman soldier Lucius Marius - sole survivor of the army - attacked the city, she disguised the symbiote as a baby and tricked him into bonding to it. With the symbiote's power, Lucius went on to become a warlord, the sorceress at his side as his lover and lieutenant.[55]

Magik's Symbiote[]

Illyana Rasputina (Earth-616) from Venomized Vol 1 4 001 Appearances: Venomized #4

Abducted from the planet Klyntar alongside millions of its brethren by the Poisons in preparation for their conquest of Earth,[9] this symbiote was genetically altered using research obtained from the symbiote arms dealer Haze Mancer in order to hasten its bonding process and make it more difficult to separate from its host.[25]

This symbiote was forcibly bonded to Magik,[26] and was presumably removed from her by Alchemax and returned to Klyntar after the Poisons were defeated.[35]

Abducted from the planet Klyntar by the alien arms-dealer Haze Mancer, this symbiote was about to be sold as a bioweapon when it was accidentally freed by Angel and bonded to Marvel Girl, augmenting her psionic abilities.[7] During an altercation with Killer Thrill and her symbiote-augmented space-pirates, the Poison Hive, attacked. Jean was ambushed by an unbound Poison and consumed, giving rise to Poison Marvel Girl.[8]

Bonded to Miles.

Angered by Miles Morales interfering with his attempt to harvest the Scorpion's codex, Carnage infected him with an offshoot of the Carnage symbiote.[59][60] The symbiote overwhelmed Miles' will and seized control of his body, transforming him into a unique six-armed Carnage Doppelgänger. Attacking and initially overpowering Venom, Carnagized Spider-Man was knocked aside, though Eddie prevented the angry Venom symbiote from killing him.[61]

Taken to Dark Carnage - acolyte to the symbiote god Knull - Carnagized Spider-Man was sent alongside a four-armed Carnage Doppelgänger born from Dan Andrews to kill J. Jonah Jameson, though Silver Sable's intervention allowed Miles to overpower the symbiote's will and lead the Dan Andrews Carnage Doppelgänger away. However, when Silver Sable attacked them Miles succumbed to the symbiote's bloodlust, and Carnagized Spider-Man easily beat Silver Sable before attempting to eat Jameson.[62]

Miles Morales (Earth-1610) and Miles Morales' Symbiote (Earth-616) from Absolute Carnage Miles Morales Vol 1 3 001

Rebonded to Miles, in full control.

Miles managed to force the symbiote off himself with a Venom strike, and it bonded to J. Jonah Jameson; attempting to return to Dark Carnage so that he could reabsorb it and devour its host's codex. However, Miles managed to separate it from Jameson and willingly rebonded to it in order to use it against Dark Carnage - managing to overcome its will with his own and causing it to adopt a less monstrous appearance.[63]

Miles apparently succumbed to the symbiote again,[64] attacking Eddie Brock during the Cult of Knull's assault on Rex Strickland's warehouse. However, the symbiote was killed when Eddie channeled a surge of electricity through Captain America's shield, freeing Miles.[65][66]

Myntril (Earth-616) from Venom Space Knight Vol 1 2 001 Appearances: Venom: Space Knight #2, Venom: Space Knight #10

Myntril, a senior member of the Agents of the Cosmos, was bonded to a white symbiote with black eyespots.[67] It is unknown what ultimately became of this symbiote, with it possibly having been captured or consumed by the Poisons during their attack on Klyntar,[9] or corrupted by Knull when he reawakened and destroyed Klyntar.[68][51]

N'Jadaka's Symbiote[]

N'Jadaka's Symbiote (Earth-616) from Black Panther Vol 7 15 001 Appearances: Black Panther (Vol. 7) #2, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #4, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #6, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #7, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #10, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #12, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #14, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #15, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #16, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #17, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #19, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #20, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #21, Black Panther (Vol. 7) #23, and Black Panther (Vol. 7) #24

At some point, the Symbiotes established a colony in the Matrix of Mamadou; coming into conflict with the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda as it spread across that galaxy. Thought to have been wiped out, a single symbiote survived and bided its time.

When N'Jadaka, the greatest warrior in the Empire, was betrayed and sent into an ambush, the symbiote bonded to him and gave him the power to slaughter the Between that were trying to kill him. N'Jadaka and his symbiote returned to the Empire's throneworld, Bast, and committed regicide; usurping the throne and becoming the new emperor.[69]

For several years, N'Jadaka wore his symbiote as a uniform and regalia;[70] though its true purpose was to serve as an instrument of vengeance against the Gods of Wakanda, whom he felt had betrayed him. N'Jadaka used the symbiote to mortally wound Bast and drained much of her divine power into himself, usurping her place as the Panther deity.[69]

After Emperor N'Jadaka's death,[71] the symbiote imprinted his personality and memories into itself - enabling him to live on.[72] Stowing away on T'Challa's ship, it began plotting to take revenge by conquering the Wakanda Prime of Earth.[73] To this end, it took the anti-monarchical Changamire as its host and recruited the revolutionaries Zenzi and Tetu.[72] While the army of the empire attacked Wakanda, they retrieved the coffin of Erik Killmonger, and went to the Altar of Resurrection.[74] However, they were then attacked by T'Challa and his friends, but the symbiote bonded to the corpse, which was resurrected by N'Jadaka's followers - allowing the soul of its host to possess Killmonger.[75] However, the symbiote - controlled by N'Jadaka - and the resurrected Killmonger did not see eye-to-eye, with it mocking him for thinking he could control it and threatening to return him to death if he refused to comply.[76] However, Killmonger later acquiesced to collaborating with the symbiote in the interests of vanquishing T'Challa. Plotting to usurp the power of the other Gods of Wakanda,[77] Killmonger's symbiote spawned a horde of offshoots to create symbiote-augmented super-soldiers designated "The Joined" to facilitate the invasion and conquest of Wakanda.[78] Black Panther attempted to kill Emperor N'Jadaka and Killmonger with the Spear of Bashenga, but the warlord snapped it in half using his divine powers. Bast - who was possessing N'Jadaka's daughter - tricked the symbiote into trying to separate from Killmonger, distracting them long enough for the Black Panther to impale them both with Bashenga's spear - seemingly killing them and enabling Bast to reclaim her full power.[79]

The Joined's Symbiotes[]

Joined (Earth-616) from Black Panther Vol 7 24 Appearances: Black Panther (Vol. 7) #23

Offshoots spawned by Emperor N'Jadaka's symbiote were sequestered by its host, Erik Killmonger, and bonded to the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda's best and brightest to serve as an elite paramilitary unit empowered by their god-king's divine essence.

These abyss-clad super soldiers were dispatched as part of the Intergalactic Empire's invasion of Wakanda Prime, taking the fight to the enemies' aerial support by spreading and infecting the technological systems of Iron Heart & War Machine.[78]

Killmonger's forces were particularly effective against ground-based enemies such as Spider-Man and Patriot, as well as the rest of T'Challa's coalition of Originators & the African-American superheroes gathered to meet the empire.[79] They were eventually subdued when T'Challa slew the symbiote-clad Erik, though their well-being without their progenitor symbiote's activity in the aftermath remains a mystery.

Nightcrawler's Symbiote[]

Nightcrawlers Symbiote (Earth-616) and Kurt Wagner (Earth-616) from Venomized Vol 1 1 Appearances: Venomized #1 and Venomized #4

Abducted from the planet Klyntar alongside millions of its brethren by the Poisons in preparation for their conquest of Earth, this symbiote was genetically altered using research obtained from the symbiote arms dealer Haze Mancer in order to hasten its bonding process and make it more difficult to separate from its host. This symbiote was sealed in a gun that was used by Poison Domino to shoot Nightcrawler in the back after he threw off Poison Cable's Aim. Nightcrawler along with Colossus tried to strangle Poison Feral and Poison Domino.[25] It was later seen with Nightcrawler and Magik teleporting young mutants to safety.[26] It was presumably separated from Nightcrawler by Alchemax and sent back to Klyntar along with its brethren.

Night Scrubber's Symbiote[]

Night Scrubber (Earth-616) from King in Black Thunderbolts Vol 1 2 001 Appearances: King in Black: Thunderbolts #2

During Knull's invasion of Earth, the Ravencroft Institute was attacked by a symbiote-dragon that spawned numerous offshoots, which took over several of the inmates -- including Night Scrubber. Mayor Fisk's Thunderbolts team, who had been sent to Ravencroft to consult Norman Osborn, managed to kill Night Scrubber and his symbiote using the electrified bracelets taken from Ampere.[80]

This symbiote was born from a sample of living abyss that the King in Black Eddie Brock left with the apprentice of a demon alchemist he killed in Limbo to protect himself, as the demon alchemist wouldn't stop attacking him for possessing the living abyss sample he had taken from the Earthrealm.[81][82]

It was offered to Rek-Rap, a demon who had come to idolize Spider-Man, after the apprentice noticed he was sad because Chasm had rejected his entrance on the Insidious Six for his heroic attitude. After Rek-Rap accepted the offer, the apprentice merged the symbiote with a Spider-Man shirt Rek-Rap was wearing and bonded it to him, causing Rek-Rap to take on a muscular appearance similar to Spider-Man's, but with the front and back emblems reversed.[82]

Rune's Symbiote[]

Rune (Earth-93060) from Rune vs. Venom Vol 1 1 001 Appearances: Rune vs. Venom #1

Enraged by the Venom symbiote's betrayal of its own kind during the first symbiote invasion of Earth, one of the surviving symbiotes bonded to Rune - a vampiric dark god from another universe - to seek revenge. Under the symbiote's influence, Rune brutally murdered several civilians in an attempt to frame Venom and ultimately attacked Eddie Brock's ex-wife Anne Weying.

Rune eventually regained control of his body from the symbiote and tore it off before vengefully devouring it.[83]

Scragg's Symbiote[]

Scragg (Earth-616) from Venomized Vol 1 5 001 Appearances: Venomized #5

Abducted from the planet Klyntar alongside millions of its brethren by the Poisons in preparation for their conquest of Earth,[9] this symbiote was genetically altered using research obtained from the symbiote arms dealer Haze Mancer in order to hasten its bonding process and make it more difficult to separate from its host. When Kid Kaiju summoned his monsters to fight Poison Thanos, Scragg was bonded to this symbiote by Poison Crossbones. As Scragg revelled in his newfound power, he was caught off-guard by an unbound Poison and consumed, giving rise to Poison Scragg. Before it could attack, Poison Scragg and its consumed symbiote were killed by Agent Anti-Venom's cleansing touch.[35]

She-Hulk's Second Symbiote[]

Jennifer Walters (Earth-616) from King In Black Vol 1 2 001 Appearances: King in Black #2 and King in Black #3

When Knull invaded Earth, the Hulk accompanied the other Avengers and various other heroes in combating his assault. Bored after effortlessly killing the Sentry, Knull infected the assembled heroes - including the Hulk - with symbiotes,[14] but the "Knullified" Hulk was eventually freed from Knull's control by Dylan Brock.[20]

Sky's Symbiote[]

Kaila (Earth-616) from Fantastic Four Vol 6 29 001 Appearances: Fantastic Four (Vol. 6) #29 and Fantastic Four (Vol. 6) #30

When the Human Torch was infected by a symbiote and "Knullified", his alien soul-mate Sky was infected through their Soul Bindings, attacking Johnny's sister Sue Storm - who had previously been scornful towards Sky's insistence that the Soul Bindings metaphysically connected them.[40]

The "Knullified" Sky led a horde of symbiote-dragons to seize control of the Forever Gate and infected Powerhouse, Brainstorm, and Bentley-23. Dragon Man engaged her in combat, and Sky attempted to control him via her psionic control of airborne creatures. Dragon Man feigned compliance before knocking her out, revealing she couldn't control him due to him being an android. At some point following this, Sky was separated from her symbiote.[13]

Spider-Man's Symbiotes[]

Spider-Man's Second Symbiote[]

Spider-Man's Second Symbiote (Earth-616) from Spider-Man & the X-Men Vol 1 5 001 Appearances: Spider-Man and the X-Men #5

A member of the corrupted Symbiote Hive that had broken away from the symbiotes Hive-Mind,[84][85] this symbiote and several of its brethren bonded to a swarm of Brood and attacked the S.W.O.R.D. space station, aiming to seize Deathbird and her unborn child in order to expedite the Symbiote Imperium's conquest of the galaxy.

Having secured Deathbird, the symbiote began to consume its Brood host from the inside-out, attacking Beast, Spider-Man, and the Special Class when they infiltrated the space station. When its Brood host died, the symbiote was captured alongside its brethren by Hellion and contained in a psionic bubble.

Spider-Man's Second Symbiote (Earth-616) from Spider-Man & the X-Men Vol 1 5 003

Possessing Spider-Man.

Outmatched by Symbiote Deathbird, Spider-Man ordered Hellion to release one of the captured symbiotes and bonded to it. Possibly as a result of combining with the remnants of his original symbiote still left in his body, it took an appearance identical to his Black Suit.[86]

The symbiote immediately attempted to seize control of Spider-Man's body, but was opposed within his subconsciousness by the disembodied telepath No-Girl. The symbiote easily defeated her, washing over her and Peter's mental replica of Queens like a tsunami of darkness; and then seized control of its host. Before it could do anything more than sprout claws and a fanged maw, the symbiote was blasted off Spider-Man by Beast, re-contained by Hellion, and jettisoned into space alongside its brethren.[1]

Spider-Man's Fourth Symbiote[]

Spider-Man's Fourth Symbiote (Earth-616) from Venomized Vol 1 1 Appearances: Venomized #1, Venomized #2, Venomized #3, Venomized #4, and Venomized #5

It was sealed in a grenade used by Poison Punisher, becoming the third of its kind to bond to Spider-Man.[25] Having possibly reactivated the remnants still left in his body of the two previous symbiotes that had bonded to him, this one took an appearance identical to his Black Suit.[87]

Based on his negative past experiences with symbiotes, Spider-Man immediately attempted to use the bell at Our Lady of Saints Church to remove it in the same way he had his original symbiote, but was surprised when no matter how much pain he inflicted on it the symbiote refused to leave him. Despite being unable to directly communicate due to its inability to speak, the symbiote transmitted its emotions to Spider-Man, helping him deduce that something had been done to it that prevented it from separating from him.[25]

Spider-Man wore the symbiote during the battle against the Poisons, and it saved his life when he was impaled through the abdomen by Poison Carnage and set adrift in space. Following the end of the conflict, it was removed from him by Alchemax and presumably returned to Klyntar with the rest of its abducted brethren.[88]

Storm's Symbiotes[]

Storm's First Symbiote[]

Storms Symbiote (Earth-616) and Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) from Venomized Vol 1 1 Appearances: Venomized #1

After Storm blasted a hole trough the Xavier Institute she was promptly shot by Poison Cable, making the symbiote bonded to her.[25] It was presumably separated from Storm by Alchemax and sent back to Klyntar along with its brethren.

Storm's Second Symbiote[]

Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) from King in Black Vol 1 2 001 Appearances: King in Black #2, King in Black: Marauders #1, Savage Avengers #19, King in Black: Return of the Valkyries #3, and King in Black #3

When Knull invaded Earth, Storm was dispatched alongside several other members of the X-Men by the Quiet Council of Krakoa to assist in combating the dark god's assault; substituting herself for Thor. Annoyed, Knull grabbed her in a fist made of living abyss and infected her with a symbiote.[14] The "Knullified" Storm battled Conan, Deadpool, and Hildegarde before being freed from Knull's control by Dylan Brock.[89][90][20]

Tarna's Symbiotes[]

Tarna's First Symbiote[]

Tarna (Earth-616) from Venom Space Knight Vol 1 2 001 Appearances: Venom: Space Knight #2 and Venom: Space Knight #7

Presumably born on the Planet Klyntar, this symbiote was bonded to Tarna when she became an Agent of the Cosmos. As they came to trust each other, Tarna helped her symbiote master the ability to manifest a humanoid form without being bonded to her.[91]

The symbiote acted as an extension of its host until it was directed to separate from her so that she could speak to Flash Thompson, a new recruit who she had been assigned to train, in private. While Tarna explained her reason for approaching him, her symbiote tried to do the same with Flash's, Venom. However, both Flash and the Venom symbiote misinterpreted Tarna and her symbiote's statement that it would be "returned to the Cosmos" as a death threat. While Flash challenged Tarna to a fight, the Venom symbiote went berserk and incapacitated her symbiote before attempting to immolate it using the thrusters of her ship.

Tarna's symbiote survived, albeit barely, and was brought to the headquarters of the Agents of the Cosmos on Klyntar to recover from its injuries. When asked what would become of it following her defection, Tarna said it would be assigned a new host and hoped it would be able to find its own path, like she did.[92]

Tarna's Second Symbiote[]

Tarna (Earth-616) from King in Black Wiccan and Hulkling Vol 1 1 001 Appearances: King in Black: Wiccan and Hulkling #1

Following Knull's attack on Talos' warship, Tarna attempted to escape to warn the Kree/Skrull Alliance of what was coming.[10] Her escape pod was intercepted and she was taken over by a symbiote, being dispatched alongside Av-Rom, Keeyah, and Virtue to assassinate Emperor Dorrek VIII. Tarna and the others attacked the Emperor and his husband Wiccan at the Shi'ar resort planet of Little Chandilar, but were subdued and taken back to the Alliance for treatment.[11]

Bonded to the Thing by the Poisons,[25] it was eventually removed by Alchemax and returned to Klyntar.[35]

Thing's Third Symbiote[]

Benjamin Grimm (Earth-616) from Fantastic Four Vol 6 30 001 Appearances: King in Black #2, Fantastic Four (Vol. 6) #29, King in Black #3, and Fantastic Four (Vol. 6) #30

When Knull invaded Earth, the Thing joined the rest of the Fantastic Four in combating his assault. Bored after effortlessly killing the Sentry, Knull infected the assembled heroes - including the Thing - with symbiotes.[14]

The "Knullified" Thing attacked 4 Yancy Street alongside the Human Torch, giving voice to Ben Grimm's darkest thoughts regarding Reed Richards, before being repelled by Sue Storm.[93] The Thing was eventually freed from Knull's control by Dylan Brock.[20]

Typhoid Mary's Symbiote[]

Mary Walker (Earth-616) from Daredevil Vol 6 26 001 Appearances: Daredevil (Vol. 6) #26 and Daredevil (Vol. 6) #27

While escorting Mayor Wilson Fisk to safety, his bodyguard Mary Walker was taken over by a symbiote spawned by a marauding symbiote-dragon.[3] Telepathically linked to Knull, Mary agreed to willingly serve the dark god in exchange for the opportunity to kill the new Daredevil, Elektra Natchios.[4]

The "Knullified" Typhoid Mary found the new Daredevil defending a teenaged girl named Alice from her mother, who had also been taken over by a symbiote, and attacked intending to kill all of them as a tribute to Knull. Alice's mother, who had been trying to forcibly bond her daughter to a symbiote out of twisted maternal desire, attacked Typhoid Mary to protect Alice and was subsequently killed by her. Elektra battled Typhoid Mary to protect Alice, temporarily stopping her own heart to convince the symbiote-augmented supervillain she had been killed. Satisfied that her mission was complete, Mary reaffirmed her vow of allegiance to Knull and departed to cause chaos in his name.[4]

At some point shortly thereafter, Mary was freed from her symbiote's influence and returned to her duties as Mayor Fisk's bodyguard.[94]

Virtue's Symbiote[]

Ethan Edwards (Earth-616) from Web Of Venom- Empyre's End Vol 1 1 001 Appearances: Web of Venom: Empyre's End #1 and King in Black: Wiccan and Hulkling #1

After Talos was dispatched with a task-force to investigate planets at the periphery of the Kree/Skrull Alliance going dark and picked up a derelict escape pod that was discovered to contain symbiotes, Virtue was forcibly bonded to one of them while attempting to escape. Recognizing M'lanz as a former host, Virtue's symbiote commanded her to submit and rejoin the Hive, killing her when she refused.

The symbiote was seemingly killed alongside its host when Talos' ship self-destructed,[10] but it survived and was dispatched alongside Av-Rom, Keeyah, and Tarna to assassinate Emperor Dorrek VIII. Virtue and the others attacked the Emperor and his husband Wiccan at the Shi'ar resort planet of Little Chandilar, but were subdued and taken back to the Alliance for treatment.[11]

A member of the Exolon - imperfect symbiotes created by the dark god Knull and discarded in the Exoteric Latitude billions of years in the past.[52] A young Kree named Zak-Del was stranded in the Exoteric Latitude and captured by the Nameless, who stabbed him in the heart in order to let the Exolon bond to him and purportedly consume his soul.[95] Clinging to his identity, Zak-Del eventually killed the leader of the Nameless and absorbed his Exolon into his own.[96] Obsessed with avenging his murdered parents, Zak-Del left the Exoteric Latitude and used the powers his Exolon granted him to become the intergalactic gunslinger eventually known as Wraith.[96]

Resenting his bond with the entity, Zak-Del learned of the existence of the dark god Knull and began searching for him to rid himself of it and regain his soul.[97] When Wraith arrived on Klyntar, his Exolon sensed its kindred's presence and revealed the ersatz planet's true nature to him, showing him a vision of Eddie Brock. Before Zak-Del could process its vision, Knull awakened immediately afterwards, destroying Klyntar. Zak-Del confronted Knull, who revealed the true origins of the Exolon. When Zak-Del attacked him, Knull ripped the imperfect symbiote from Zak-Del's body, integrated it into his hive-mind by absorbing it into his symbiote armor,[20] and used its living abyss to manifest All-Black's Necrosword form.[52]

Zeena Hodges' Symbiote[]

Appearances: Venom: The Hunted #2

One of the few members of the Symbiote Hive's first invasion of Earth to survive the Venom symbiote's psychic scream of despair, the symbiote bonded to a woman named Zeena Hodges opted to give up its kind's bloodthirsty ways and sought to live in harmony with its host.

Zeena and her symbiote were sought out by Donna Diego, host of the Scream symbiote, who sought to redeem herself for her murder of the other Life Foundation symbiotes' hosts by finding as many survivors as she could and helping them adapt. Unfortunately, the Symbiote Invasion had drawn a Xenophage to Earth, who ambushed Zeena and devoured her and her symbiote.[37]

Spider-Man 2099's Symbiote[]

Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 Vol 1 1 Land Virgin Variant Appearances: Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 #1-5

While captured by Alchemax, the Venom Symbiote spawned a new symbiote. The then current CEO Miguel O'Hara told Dr. Hibby to kill it, but the latter refused and intended to turn on his boss. O'Hara, under his alter ego of Spider-Man, then decided to break into Hibby's lab to kill the newborn symbiote himself, only for the symbiote to break free and bond to him.[98]

The symbiote proceeded to force Miguel to collaborate with his brother Kron Stone, who had rebonded to the Venom symbiote, on wrecking havoc across Nueva York for its own amusement. Some time bonded together, Miguel ascertained dominance over the symbiote and confronted Kron after he killed his other brother Gabriel O'Hara when the latter attempted to bring Miguel to his senses. Miguel absorbed the Venom symbiote off Kron's body and into his own, leaving Stone to fall to his apparent death. Having had enough of the symbiotes, Miguel had Lyla activate a sonic scream in his suit to drive his symbiote off him. Enraged, the symbiote went to bond to Gabby's corpse, using it to masquerade as him and get revenge on Miguel.[99]

Codex's Symbiote[]

Dylan Brock (Earth-1051) and Codex's Symbiote (Earth-1051) from Venom Vol 4 29 001 Appearances: Venom (Vol. 4) #29

After Dylan Brock fell under the sway of the dark god Knull, who had created the symbiotes, he tore a piece of the Venom symbiote off from his mother and grew it into a duplicate symbiote that he bonded to.

Becoming Knull's apostle, Dylan sought to conquer the Earth; and to that end forced his symbiote to reproduce in order to create a Symbiote Hive he used to overrun the world. Dylan is indicated to have "rejected" this symbiote at some point and bonded to several others in its place; ultimately honing his powers to the point where he became the nexus of the hive-mind, able to control them without needing to bond to them first.[100]

Earth-TRN009[]

Black Cat's Symbiotes[]

Black Cat's First Symbiote[]
Felicia Hardy (Earth-TRN009) from Spider-Man Web of Shadows 002 Appearances: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

At some point during Venom's symbiote invasion of New York, Black Cat was taken over by a symbiote spawned by Venom's. Spider-Man was forced to choose between boarding a S.H.I.E.L.D. dropship with his girlfriend Mary Jane or staying behind to save Black Cat, ultimately choosing to face Black Cat while Luke Cage took MJ to safety. Dogpiled by a horde of symbiotes, Spider-Man was forced to unleash his symbiote to break free, breaking his promise to MJ to never use it again.

Symbiote Black Cat lured Spider-Man to the top of a skyscraper, fighting him while attempting to convince him to give in to his own symbiote. When Spider-Man refused to do so, Symbiote Black Cat incapacitated Spider-Man with a sonic scream, summoning a horde of symbiotes to fight alongside her and declaring her intent to kill him. Before she could finish him off Mary Jane intervened atop the S.H.I.E.L.D. dropship with a shotgun. Symbiote Black Cat ordered her symbiotes to kill MJ. While Spider-Man fended the symbiote horde off, Symbiote Black Cat attacked MJ herself, disarming her and throwing her off the S.H.I.E.L.D. dropship. Spider-Man saved MJ and furiously attacked Symbiote Black Cat, throwing her several blocks away when she tried to pounce on him. Felicia was badly wounded from impacting with several buildings and hitting the ground hard enough to crater it, and the symbiote bonded to her was killed in the process.[103]

Black Cat's Second Symbiote[]
Felicia Hardy (Earth-TRN009) and Black Cat's Second Symbiote (Earth-TRN009) from Spider-Man Web of Shadows 001 Appearances: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

With Felicia gravely injured from her fall, Spider-Man was faced with the choice to leave her in MJ's care or try to save her himself. Picking the latter option, Spider-Man bonded Felicia to an offshoot of his symbiote, which she retained full control over.

If Spider-Man decided to embrace his symbiote's power, Symbiote Black Cat would become his queen and lover.[103]

Electro's Symbiote[]

Maxwell Dillon (Earth-TRN009) from Spider-Man Web of Shadows 002 Appearances: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

After a fight with Spider-Man, Electro was shot by Black Widow and left unconscious. His sister, desperate, bonded him with a symbiote so he could live. Electro was subdued to the Venom Hive and powered some symbiotes with his own power. Spider-Man fought against him again. Electro would forcibly separate from it and then pass out from exhaustion or, if he doesn't pass out, kill the symbiote in revenge for killing his sister.[103]

Spider-Man's Second Symbiote[]

Bonded to Spider-Man.

When Venom fought against Spider-Man, a portion of the Venom symbiote managed to separate itself from the main body and rebond to Spider-Man, assuming the form of his black suit. Spider-Man's symbiote attempted to influence his actions and decisions, making him increasingly aggressive and callous should he choose to follow its impulses.

Should Spider-Man succumb to its influence, he callously withheld knowledge that someone was attempting to provoke a gang war between the Park Avenue Players and the Rolling Sevens street gangs, resulting in a shootout. After both gangs were incapacitated, Spider-Man revealed they had been set up and was furiously berated by Luke Cage for withholding that information, only for Symbiote Spider-Man to coldly dismiss him.

After a fight with Black Cat, who he caught performing a heist for Kingpin, Spider-Man was shocked to learn she was still in love with him. When Black Cat proposed they get back together and criticized his mantra of prioritizing responsibility instead of using his powers to do whatever he wanted, Symbiote Spider-Man -- choosing the dark path -- flirtatiously agreed that he could use more fun in his life, entertaining her suggestion that they wrest control of the city from Fisk. After defeating the Vulture, Spider-Man -- choosing the dark path -- threatened Toomes if he ever crossed him again, leaving the geriatric supervillain terrified.

Taken over by his symbiote, Venom began using his newfound abilities to replicate himself to create pods capable of infecting civilians with symbiotes. Upon discovering Venom's plot to cover the world in a web of shadows, Spider-Man and his allies began creating a device that would eliminate all symbiotes without being harmful to humans. While Moon Knight and the Vulture bickered over whether or not to break the Tinkerer out of Ryker's Island to aid in the device's construction, Spider-Man -- picking the dark path -- chose the Vulture to fly him over. Symbiote Spider-Man helped Rhino escape prison in exchange for owing him a favor for later, and set out to break the Tinkerer free by himself.

As Venom's plot came to fruition, covering much of the city in symbiote matter and infecting civilians, heroes, and villains alike with symbiotes, Spider-Man came across Electro, who was taken over by a symbiote while looking for his sister. After defeating the symbiote-possessed Electro, Symbiote Spider-Man brutally pummelled him while calling him pathetic for succumbing to his symbiote's control. When the symbiote separated from him, Electro asked Spider-Man what it was and was told it was what had taken his beloved sister, prompting Electro to furiously blast the symbiote with a torrent of electricity. Electro pledged allegiance to Spider-Man in exchange for revenge on the symbiotes, Spider-Man telling him the time would come soon.

After a fight with a Symbiote Wolverine, Symbiote Spider-Man absorbed Wolverine symbiote into his own and ripped him in half. As Logan swore revenge, Symbiote Spider-Man coldly glared at him before walking away and contacting S.H.I.E.L.D. to retrieve him.

While escorting refugee civilians to safety, Spider-Man promised Mary Jane - who was concerned about the influence it was having over him - that he wouldn't use the symbiote again. When Mary Jane's convoy went missing in the middle of the symbiote horde's territory, the Kingpin mocked Spider-Man for not being able to protect those he cared about. Furious, Spider-Man summoned the symbiote and prepared to attack the mobster, but stopped himself and left to find Mary Jane. After reuniting with her and Luke Cage, Spider-Man decided to stay behind to confront Black Cat, who had been taken over by a symbiote. Dogpiled by dozens of symbiotes, Spider-Man was forced to break his promise to MJ in order to break free. After defeating Symbiote Black Cat, Felicia was gravely injured. Spider-Man was faced with the choice to turn Black Cat over to MJ so she could be hospitalized at the safe zone or saving her himself by bonding her to an offshoot of his own symbiote.

After defeating the symbiote-possessed Vulture, Spider-Man had to make a last choice: succumb to his symbiote's influence and destroy the anti-symbiote device, or activate the device and kill all the offshoot symbiotes. Picking the former option, Spider-Man went on to confront Venom - who had taken over the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, and killed him by throwing him into one of the engines.

If Spider-Man destroyed the device and saved Black Cat, he became the king of the symbiote horde with Symbiote Black Cat as his queen and lover. Should he have entrusted Black Cat to Mary Jane, Symbiote Spider-Man decided to turn Mary Jane into his queen, by force if necessary.[103]

Vulture's Symbiote[]

Adrian Toomes (Earth-TRN009) from Spider-Man Web of Shadows 002 Appearances: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

At some point, Vulture was bonded to a symbiote spawned from the Venom symbiote and was present when S.H.I.E.L.D. was ready to activate a device that would eliminate the symbiotes, grabbing one agent and demanding to see Spider-Man before dropping him to his death. Both he and Spider-Man fought until Spidey got the upper hand and defeated the Vulture, successfully separating him from his symbiote.[103]

Wolverine's Symbiote[]

James Howlett (Earth-TRN009) from Spider-Man Web of Shadows 002 Appearances: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

Having figured out that symbiotes were weak to sound, Wolverine laid a trap by using the parishioners inside a church as bait for the symbiote horde, planning to use the church's bell to incapacitate the symbiotes before finishing them off with his claws. Spider-Man argued that they should evacuate the church instead, using the bell to help clear out a landing zone for a S.H.I.E.L.D. dropship to evacuate the civilians. When the symbiotes attacked the dropship, Wolverine faced them had on but was quickly overwhelmed and forcibly bonded to one of the symbiotes. Feeding off his berserker rage, the symbiote seized control of Wolverine, who gleefully attacked Spider-Man. When Spider-Man proved a match for him, Symbiote Wolverine augmented himself using a nearby symbiote pod, sprouting spikes all over his body. Despite this, Spider-Man was able to defeat him.

If Spider-Man chose to follow the path of the hero, Wolverine managed to assert himself over the symbiote, hacking at it and his own body to separate from it. If Spider-Man succumbed to his own symbiote's dark influence, he forcibly assimilated Wolverine's symbiote into his own before ripping Wolverine in half.

Should Spider-Man ultimately follow a dark path and succumb to his symbiote's corruption, Wolverine would regain his symbiote and ally himself with Black Widow and the Kingpin in order to take down Spider-Man and his web of shadows.[103]
