History

Charles Cameo is a former actor turned criminal known as The Imposter. When the Prime Minister of Rutania visited the Rutanian Embassy in New York City, Charles snuck into the Prime Minister's quarters, tied him up, and disguised himself as the Prime Minister. Spider-Man (Peter Parker), arrived through the window however, and discovered Charles' plan. The hero, was hit with sleeping gas from Charles' cane and fell asleep. When Spider-Man woke up, he was seized by to of the Prime Minister's security, but he broke out their grip. Spider-Man unable to prove it was an imposter, exclaimed that he would be back, before leaving through the window.[1]

Later, The Imposter arrived at the Daily Bugle Building and convinced Daily Bugle head J. Jonah Jameson to increase his 10 million dollar donation to the Rutanian government, to 20 million dollars. Meanwhile at home, Peter Parker created a concoction to expose Cameo. Sneaking back into the embassy, Spider-Man was met by The Imposter who had been waiting for the superhero. The Imposter attempted to shoot Spider-Man with tranquilizer darts, but Spider-Man used a table to shield himself. Spider-Man attempted to shoot Charles Cameo with his webs, but they were torn through by the criminal's cane. He attempted to utilize the sleeping gas once more, but Spider-Man charged through it with the table. Before he could ram into The Imposter however, Charles activated a propeller in his cane to lift himself above Spider-Man's head. Ramming into the wall, Spider-Man watched as The Imposter descended back to the ground and cornered Peter with the spinning blades of his propellor.[1]

Spider-Man used his webs to pull a curtain of the window, getting trapped in the spinning blades, and wrapping around Charles' body. At that moment, guards arrived in the Prime Minister's room, and feeling that the guards would not believe his story, Spider-Man escaped once again. Sometime later, The Imposter had a phone call with Jameson, who ensured him that Spider-Man would not interfere again. The "Prime Minister" offered to erect a statue in Jameson's honor. Spider-Man caught up to the Rutanian plane carrying the gold shipment. Aboard, The Imposter and Spider-Man dueled once more, this time with the former activating a much smaller propellor in his cane and attempted to back Spider-Man out of the plane door. Spider-Man however, slung two of the blocks of gold at Charles' cane, breaking it and webbing the pieces to the plane wall. Attempting to pry the cane off the wall, The Imposter was webbed up and unmasked to the guards by Spider-Man. He then unveiled the real, tied up Prime Minister in the ship's cargo. Charles Cameo was then arrested by NYC police.[1]

Having escaped from prison, Charles Cameo posed as Daily Bugle photographer Peter Parker in order to steal an antique Shakespeare book from a library. However, the librarian sounded an alarm which alerted the attention of Spider-Man.[2]
