Quote1 Look at them. Colorful pulsating irritating beings. Flickering in and out of existence. So fast they are barely alive. They are nothing. Less than nothing. Still they blemish my domain. My domain and I am exiled from it. But time is on my side. As I slip through the neck of the hourglass. One grain at a time. Until there's only order. Only peace. Only me. Quote2
Chronoserpent[src]

The Chronoserpent is the latest title bestowed upon the cosmic being that branded itself to the infant Battlerealm eons ago. Using worlds as hosts and its ability to transform anyone into its "antibodies", the Serpent aims to be the only thing in existence. After being imprisoned, the Chronoserpent slowly regained its autonomy and was recognized as a threat to everyone in the Battlerealm.[3][1][2]

It is currently engaged in combat with Galactus, the only being in the Battlerealm capable of balancing against it.[2]

History

Eons before the seventh Contest of Champions, the Battlerealm was tainted in its formation by the being currently known as the Chronoserpent.[1][2] Despite claiming the Battlerealm as its host to grow stronger, the Chronoserpent was "exiled" from it.[4] As ages passed, the Chronoserpent's self-described "prison" breached, allowing it more interaction with the Battlerealm.[3]

Those who were vulnerable were corrupted by the Chronoserpent into its will-enforcing "antibody" puppets.[5] Notable among them was Battleworld's God-King Maestro[2] and Glykhan, the variant of Frank Castle who founded Ouroboros.[5] The Chronoserpent ultimately had Maestro killed by Glykhan after successfully manipulating the Battleworld's barons into proving that they could succeed him as the planet's tyrants.[2]

Carina discovered the Chronoserpent when she used her ISO-8 manipulation to rid the Battlerealm of Black ISO. Weary of the "true nature" of the Battlerealm, Carina cracked space-time with her powers to interrogate and threaten the Serpent.[3][6]

When the Ancient One used his Time Stone to transport Anathi and himself to the Maestro's death, Glykhan saw them and abducted Anathi to the Chronoserpent's asteroid for questioning. The Ancient One attempted to intervene, but he was effortlessly defeated by the Chronoserpent. Fortunately, Anathi recieved the Infinity Claw from Black Panther and exhausted its power to free herself from the Chronoserpent. An alternate Doctor Strange followed up by summoning Galactus to balance against the Serpent. Battleworld was then evacuated before the Chronoserpent and Galactus ravaged the planet in their conflict.[2]

When Glykhan was defeated by the Summoner in front of an audience at the Galactorum, the Chronoserpent used the opportunity to reveal itself through Glykhan and offer its "salvation" to the Battlerealm.[5]

The Chronoserpent reveals itself through Glykhan

Cosmic Being: The Watcher described the Chronoserpent as a cosmic being from a "dead cosmos before our own".[1] More specifically, Anathi defined it as a Celestial Parasite that uses worlds as hosts to grow and strengthen itself.[2]

  • Cosmic Awareness: The Chronoserpent can see and sense what occurs in the Battlerealm.[4]
  • Energy Manipulation: The Chronoserpent defeated the Ancient One with a spark of energy.[2]
  • Immortality: Mr. Fantastic described the Chronoserpent as eons old.[1]
  • Invulnerability: The Serpent survived an attack from the Infinity Claw that exhausted the composition of all six Infinity Stones powering it. However, it should be noted that because they were not native to the Battlerealm, they lacked the infinite power they would grant otherwise.[2]
  • Possession/Power Bestowal: The Chronoserpent has the ability to infect and transform anyone into its will-enforcing "antibodies".[2][7]
  • Size Increase: While fighting Galactus, the Chronoserpent altered its size to match its cosmic opponent.[2]

Weaknesses

Galactus: Anathi described Galactus as the only force in the Battlerealm capable of balancing out the Chronoserpent.[2]
