History

Cliff Randall was a member of the alien race known as the Collective Intelligence. Randall was a prodigal, a sleeper agent living as a normal human being on Earth until being recalled by the Intelligence. When the Collective Intelligence left Earth, he sabotaged their ship, destroying it and thereby saving Earth.
