The Cold Warriors were super-soldier operatives in the CIA's Operation Cold War, built from both mechanical parts and the organic parts of animals and slain American soldiers[1] with the purpose of maintaining control over the American population without anyone ever knowing they were being controlled. They became so secretive, however, that even the CIA stopped being aware of their operations.[2]

History

Young Zackery accidentally stumbled upon the Cold Warriors in the middle of executing renegade ex-member Jack. On a short vacation from the X-Men, Colossus rushed to the boy's aid, forcing Colossus and Zackery's family to go into hiding.[3] When the Warriors arrived at the family home, operative Number Six allowed herself to be captured by Colossus as part of a plan to bring the Warriors down from the inside.[4]

Though Colossus used the information given to him by Number Six to track down the Cold Warriors' base of operations and their leader Alexander, he refused to kill any of the operatives, leaving the possibility that they could be yet again be rebuilt from old parts. The Warriors' operations were exposed to the media and Number Six officially defected, but Colossus was unsure that the story would ever really see print or that anything would ultimately change.[5]
