History

The Collector had a vision seeing powerful things that would rise, determined to destroy the universe. He decided to prevent this from happening and that he would dedicate his life to collecting artifacts and living beings throughout the universe to place them out of danger. Then, after the destruction of the universe, he could re-populate it and bequeath the knowledge and cultures from past. He built a great spaceship and began his work, stopping on every world to collect a sample of its greatest achievements, as well as living representatives of each of their lifeforms.

In a matter of years, the ship was full and he had to stop in order to collect expanded facilities for his "permanent collection". Using robo-mechanics bought on planet Cron, the Collector transferred his collection. Every time his ship's hold became full, the Collector would return to his museum-worlds to place the new samples. He has currently filled up ten museum-worlds with artifacts from one hundred thousand planets. With the passing of eons, his monomania became more obsessive, until he forgot the original reason for his collection.[1]

Marvel Contest of Champions (Earth-517)[]

The Ghost Orchid is the ship of the Collector and his primary base of operations within the Battlerealm. It houses his Champion Vault, where he keeps his collection of crystalized Champions from across the Multiverse.

When M.O.D.O.K. unleashed ISO-infused Terrigen Mist across the Battlerealm with the Collector's support, Magneto conjured a rebellious plan to take control of the Ghost Orchid. He attempted to rally the other mutants of the Contest to join in on his plan, though it was opposed by Beast for being too risky. While Magneto was able to raid the Collector's Champion Vault and free Jean Grey, he failed to take control over the vessel and scattered Champion crystals across the Battlerealm.[2][3] The ISO-Terrigen would awaken the Phoenix Force within Jean Grey, turning her into Dark Phoenix and empowering her to toy with the Ghost Orchid, much to M.O.D.O.K.'s dismay. Dark Phoenix was stopped by the Summoner, rescuing the Ghost Orchid in the process.[4]

The ship was docked within Knowhere which haused the Collector's Emporium. If the Emporium were to be in danger the ship would take off to keep the collection safe.[5]
