History
The Commodore is a leisure vessel previously owned by the Grandmaster. The Grandmaster used the ship for special occasions such as his birthday or orgies.[1]
To escape from Sakaar, Thor and Loki stole the Commodore from The Grandmaster's fleet. In the ship, Thor, Valkyrie, and Bruce Banner were able to travel through the Devil's Anus to arrive at Asgard.[1]
The Commodore was seen attached to the Statesman as the Asgardian refugees used it to escape from Hela's and Surtur's assaults.[1]
When Thanos and his children attacked the Statesman, the Mad Titan used the Power Stone to destroy the Ark, subsequently causing the ship's own destruction.Notes
- As a leisure vessel, the Commodore does not possess any offensive weapons. However, the ship is equipped with an impressive pyrotechnic capability.[1]
Trivia
- Like the other spacecrafts appearing in Thor: Ragnarok, the Commodore is named after classic models of the Australian-based Holden cars manufacturer.[3]
- In the commentary for Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi explained that the Commodore shares it color scheme with the Australian Aboriginal flag. During a promotional interview with Triple J, Waititi stated "And then the ship that they fly out on, the Commodore, we basically just took all the colors from the Aboriginal flag, and like rearranged everything around the design of the ship. So it's red, black and yellow. So yeah, the heroes of the film are escaping from this world on the Aboriginal flag."[4]
