History
Contraxians managed to achieve an utopian, peaceful and enlightened society with advanced technology and governed by the Priestesses of the Sun. They managed to expand outside of Contraxia and establish colonies on other planets in the Elidra star system. This age of prosperity soon came to an abrupt end when the sun started dying and as a result it began cooling down, causing the worlds in the Elidra system to slowly freeze. The Contraxians were forced abandon their colonies and return to their homeworld which soon became overpopulated as they welcomed in other refugee races from the frozen planets. Meanwhile, the Sun Priestesses worked hard to find a solution to this problem by finding a planet where they could move to, but all of the habitable worlds they came across were already occupied, and being unwilling to kill an entire race and steal their world, the Contraxians were forced to find another way. One Contraxian commander by the name of Varga spoke to the people and the representatives from Elidra's other worlds that the Sun Priestesses had failed and needed to claim a hospitable planet immediately. The Mother Superior and the people rejected his proposal as they refused to lose their soul for the sake of survival, and Varga peacefully bowed out. So the Contraxians changed their plan by finding a new energy source to reactivate the sun, and sent numerous scientists to other parts of space, though a large part of these emissaries were met with their demise.[1]
One of these scientists was Marya who arrived to Earth where she took the name of Marie Giffen and posing as a human she began working at Connecticut College. There she met Phillip Hart, and believing hid research might hold the key to revive her sun, began aiding hin in his. They eventually fell in love, and after revealing her true nature to him, the couple conceived a son they named Jack. Fearing that Jack's hybrid biology could become unstable, Phillip created the Zero Fluid as a dampening agent for Jack's cellular activity which would allow him to produce devastating energy. Phillip hid his research as an attempt to produce a new form of limitless energy, but Marya would soon die in a car accident, with Jack never learning of true alien heritage.[2][3]
Following Marya's death, the Contraxians sent Kaina to monitor the Hart family and claim the energy source. As part of the plan, she took the identity of Marcy Kaine and grew close to Jack. When his father was killed by the Corporation, Jack was doused in the Zero Fluid which caused him to be imbued with the Zero Energy. Growing impatient, Varga sent Oltnam to spy on Jack, and after a couple of years passed he planned to abduct him. Varga's forces attacked Jack's home where he was being supervised by S.H.I.E.L.D., and during the ensuing battle Kaina revealed to Jack the truth of their people. To avoid further destruction on the surrounding town, both Jack and Kaina agreed to enter the Mother Ship and go to Contraxia.[4]
The Contraxians were exhilarated that there was finally someone who could solve their problem, and as soon Jack arrived they analyzed him to see if he had the power to revive the sun. They found that Jack's Zero Energy was more than enough to reactivate their sun, but he had to sacrifice himself by going into the sun in order to accomplish that. Not wanting to force him to give his life for people he barely knew, the Sun Priestesses gave Jack the choice to refuse, but he agreed to sacrifice himself for the Contraxians. However, Varga's survivalists, unaware that Jack was ready to sacrifice himself, didn't want to risk it and ambushed him along with Kaina and the Sun Priestesses. They captured Jack and Kaina, while killing the Priestesses, putting the blame of their murder on Jack in order to convince the Contraxians that sacrificing him was the right choice.[5]
Both an unconscious Jack and Kaina were placed inside a solar probe ship en route to the sun, but a guilt-stricken Varga had changed of heart and went to save them. Oltman, who was responsible for slaying the Priestesses, stabbed him in the back to prevent him from ruining everything. Still, Varga managed to enter the probe and freed the couple so they could escape on his shuttle, though Jack stayed behind as he was convinced to save Contraxia. He went inside the sun and channeled his energy into it, reviving it and returning Contraxia to its former state. The Contraxians rejoiced as the snow melted, only for the climate change to worsen as the ice sheets also melted, causing the sea level to rise which submerged many cities, and the forests caught on fire. The Contraxians were driven to the tops of the mountains where they were met with an empowered Jack who decided to spare them and encouraged them to regain the honor they lost.[6]
Sadly, the Contraxians appeared to have fallen on hard times, as their homeworld began thriving with intergalactic illegal and criminal activity.[7]Powers and Abilities
