Costa Perdita, officially Republic of Costa Perdita or República de Costa Perdita in Spanish, is a country located in Central America. It is bordered by Costa Verde to the North, Mexico to the north east, Guatemala to the south east, the Pacific Ocean to the west and Rio de Muerte to the south.[2]
A former Spanish colony, Costa Perdita gained it's independence from Spain in 1823 after a brief civil war involving the allied nations of Terra Verde and Costa Verde. The three countries had the support of the British Empire, which was looking to further disrupt the control of Spain within major trade routes. After less than a year, the war ended with the signing of the The Treaty of Verdita. A small country Costa Perdita has little in the way of homegrown industry beyond natural resources, primarily fishing and timber. In recent years however, large biochemical corporations have moved their manufacturing and testing facilities into the country, taking advantage of oft-criticized relaxed health, safety and human rights regulations. It's been estimated that more than 50,000 citizens have died in the last two decades due to contamination of both air and water from biochemical waste and spill-off.[1]Points of Interest
