Flag of Croatia
Croatia, officially the Republic of Croatia, was a sovereign state at the crossroads of Central Europe, Southeast Europe, and the Mediterranean. Its capital city was Zagreb. It was a member of the European Union. During the Cold War it was part of Yugoslavia.
History
Elysian Enterprises had a propulsion research facility nestled in the Velebit Mountains of Croatia. From there, they had the X-Cutioner lead a convoy, which was ambushed by Gambit. While Gambit was succesful in destroying the convoy's cargo, he ended up needing to be rescued by Rogue.[1]
Split
The city of Split was one of many places around the world that came under the attack of Ex Nihilo, as meteor-like objects landed on its beach, spawning creatures ready to terraform the planet.[2]
In a castle outside Zagreb, Laura Kinney was taken prisoner and thrown in a cage with Sabretooth, Daken, and a hooded figure hiding in the corner. Soon, Lady Deathstrike was thrown in as well. The hooded figure got up and revealed themselves as Professor X, who was supposed to be dead, finding that everyone present has one thing in common: a connection to the recently deceased Wolverine. The "Professor", however, was revealed to be Mystique when shoved against the electrified barrier of the cage by Lady Deathstrike. Finally, Shogun appeared, as he threw Elixir into the cage and started telling the group about Logan's death as well as Dr. Cornelius. He explains that the doctor experimented on the four of them – Laura, Daken, Sabretooth and Deathstrike – and implanted four command words, that Shogun now has access to.[3]
Next, Neuro appeared to explain that he, Shogun, and other had been the result of further experiments performed by Cornelius, testing super-powers on them without any intention to let them live beyond his experimentation. However, they managed to escape and to steal the command words in order to get the four killers in front of them to cooperate with them. Suddenly, Siphon appeared, attacking Elixir and draining him. Shogun released everyone from the cage and they scattered, but Siphon managed to get a hold of Daken, taking away his healing factor. The group managed to escape and, seeing how the only way to be free of their commands was to work with Shogun, agreed to take on whatever task he had for them.[4]

When the Brotherhood of Mutants kidnapped the president's daughter, the X-Men were able to track them to Croatia. While it came to a fight between the two teams, the X-Men were succesful in retreiving the girl. However, Beast was severely injured in the process and soon the locals began opening fire on the X-Men as well. Things went South for the team until Magneto showed up, lending them a hand in their escape while delivering a lecture on standing with mutantkind.[5]Points of Interest
