History

Overview & Origin

Crone's nature and origin are unknown so far. She presented herself as the "Scribe of the Others", and is constantly saw writing down the events she witness and her thoughts about them. She allegedly once met Eugene O'Neill before her apparition in Warsaw in 1943.

World War II: Warsaw ghetto

Crone was first depicted during World War II, in 1943 in Warsaw, Poland, writing in her book about the cyclical nature of humanity oppressing humanity through ignorance, intolerance, and bigotry. A SS soldier, Otto, tried to force her onto a train and grabs her book, but she stabbed him in the neck with her fountain pen. The pen soaked up his blood for use as ink. His fellow soldiers soon found him down, but with no suspect around, and noticed there was no blood from the stab wound.

Modern Age: Utopia

She later appeared on Utopia writing in her book, at the time X-Factor was visiting the mutant nation, to see if they might want to move there with the X-Men. Professor X and Darwin were having a talk on the coast when they saw her.

Approaching her, Xavier couldn't detect her mentally - like she wasn't even there. Darwin, thinking she was a spy messing with Xavier's mind, took her her book, letting her become angry and growing into a giant, demanding her book back. She announces herself as the "Scribe of the Others."

Before Darwin could give the book back, both X-Men and X-Factor assemble and tried to rescue him, and the book fell into the San Francisco Bay. While the X-Men were attacking Crone, Darwin tried to save the book, but it was eaten by a shark. Namor then dive in, and the two retrieve from inside the shark, and give it back to Crone. Once Crone had her book, she returned to her normal size and the brawl stopped.

Presenting the notebook as "the Book of the Others, whence all knowledge comes", she offered Cyclops to read it, to show him why his Utopia was destined to fail, torn down by enemies without and within. Scott refused, saying that Utopia has to succeed. She consequently called him a fool, and Jamie Madrox an even bigger fool when he mock him.

She then left, predicting that the two of them would kill each other one day, stating they were too much alike to befriend.
