History
Cult dedicated to the Indian goddess Kali founded in the 8th century.[5] In World War II, they served the Princess Ramasi, who claimed to be the daughter of the goddess Kali.[3]
The Thugees, ritual murderers of the Cult of Kali, were active in Afghanistan for centuries, and became part of the Si-Fan in modern times.[2] The Cult of Kali were also among the forces of the Si-Fan operating in Egypt.[4]
In the mid-1800s, the cult came into conflict with the Cult of Khonshu over their relics and idols, with Khonshu's worshipers being disgusted at Kali's worshipers veneration of death.[6] In India, the Cult of Kali, despite being banned and the Indian government hiring the assassin Deathtoll to wipe them out, still remained active.[1]Notes
- In Sax Rohmer's novels, the Cult of Kali is associated with Fah Lo Suee, the daughter of Fu Manchu, however in the Marvel comics, this connection is not shown, the Thugees also known as Phansigars are known to worship the goddess Kali, in the comics, Thugees and Phansigars are distinct groups that served Fu Manchu and were brought together in the Order of the Golden Dawn.[7] However, in Marvel Atlas, it is said that Thugees are part of the Cult of Kali and the Si-Fan,[2] and that the Cult of Kali itself is part of the Si-Fan.[4]
