History
During the Pre-Cataclysmic Age, circa 18,500 BC, the Cult of Ral was a Valusian cult devoted to the application of justice accordingly to the teachings of the ancient and sacred Book of Ral, seemingly a violent and expeditious justice. Ral was a prophet, centuries old by the Age of Kull. Ota Caristah was the high priest of the Cult of Ral.
During the leave of King Kull, off to fight Commoria, the City of Wonders allegedly wallowed in sin and corruption. Caristah was appointed Keeper of the Laws by a council of noblemen. Caristah applied his view of the justice of Ral by multiplying the executions by impalement before the walls of the City of Wonders, and the Cult grew larger everyday.
When Kull returned from war, he met with Caristah, and dismissed him of his function. Tu warned Kull of the threat that Caristah and the Cult of Ral posed, but Kull pushed those concerns to later and went to his bedchamber. That very night, Caristah dispatched a group of assassins of the Cult of Ral to slay Kull. The assassins were dealt with, and Kull and others donned their garb to present themselves before Caristah, only to reveal their identities moments later and sentencing him to his own medicine by having him impaled before the walls of the City of Wonders. Brule highlighted the fact Caristah's death didn't meant the end of the Cult of Ral.[1]
One night, the Cult of Ral decided to infiltrate the palace and assassinate Kull to avenge the Keeper of Law. That same night, the Cult of Ohris Dehjmal, and worshipers of Kodatha (both having been killed by Kull) also decided to do so. Dehjmal's followers soon stumbled into those of the Keeper of the Laws, and after a bloody skirmish dominated by the Cult of Ral, united. The group was then attacked by the worshipers of Kodatha. Only one of those survived the fight and, heading to Kull's bed, stumbled on a shoe and broke his head on a chest a few feet from Kull, unaware of the events of the night.[4]
It was seemingly considered, at least for a time, that the Cult of Ral was no more, though this was shown in a dream.[3]Paraphernalia
