History

Centuries ago, the Ancient One used the Eye of Agamotto to banish a race of demons from Earth to an extradimensional realm.[4]

According to some sources, the Cult of the Harvester of Eyes was formed to hunt down and kill followers of Agamotto.[5]

Whether or not this origin is true, in recent years the members of the Cult of the Harvesters of Eyes were dedicated to the rebirth of that ancient demon race on Earth. They were led by Vera Gemini, the daughter of a human and a demon.[2] Eric Simon Payne, aka Devil-Slayer, was once a member of the Cult of the Harvesters of Eyes but quit when he learned the truth about them. He would later return to battle the organization.[6]

The Agent of Fortune stole the Eye of Agamotto from Doctor Strange as a part of this plot. The Eye was used to form a gateway that enabled the Demons to invade Earth.[3]

The human members of the Cult lusted for power, but they were unwitting pawns of their leader Vera Gemini. They were offered as human sacrifice to the Demons. When they managed to summon many demons to Earth, they were brutally slain by those Demons.[1]

The Defenders were able to defeat the Demons by removing the Eye from the Demon Realm and bringing it back to Earth. This reversed Xenogenesis, causing all of the Demons who had reached Earth to be immediately returned to the Demon Realm.[1]

Transportation

  • At least two members of the cult had Shadow Cloaks which allowed them to teleport.

Notes

  • According to Ian McNee, an "ancient and fairly credible source" once told him that Devil Slayer's old cult had been formed to hunt down and kill followers of Agamotto. He referred to it as the Cult of the Harvester of Eyes. It's unclear if his use of the singular "Harvester" is significant.
