History

The daemons or simply demons were what Okkarans and their descendants called the native inhabitants of Amenth. They varied in appearance, some having only one central eye while others had two, possessed horns of varied shape and reproduced asexually with one individual able to spawn an entire pack in a month. These creatures, though sentient and capable of speech, were incredibly vicious and violent, only somewhat kept in check by Annihilation.

Thousands of years ago, Annihilation used the Twilight Blade to puncture the boundaries of reality and emerged on Earth. The daemons attacked the mutant inhabitains of Okkara (which was split into two beings: Arakko and Krakoa), causing significant casualties. Genesis, the Four Horsemen and scores of other powerful mutants, along with Arakko itself, went into the breach to shut it from the other side and deny Annihilation's forces access to Earth by sealing the rift. Once the breach was closed, the mutants were cut-off from the other side and one tenth of the Arakkii mutants fled into the wasteland, overwhelmed by the demonic nature of Amenth. They were later captured by the forces of Annihilation and were forced to breed with Daemons to create a new warrior sub-race, the Summoners.

Following the defeat of Annihilation during the contest of swords, the Daemons fell under the governance of Genesis. Infuriated over the weakening of her people on Arakko she led her armada into attacking the mutants to force them into becoming stronger, though one of the Daemons remained by Apocalypse's side.

Notes

• Originally the Amenthi creatures were spelled as "daemons" across the early issues of X-Men (Vol. 5). Later, spelling them as simply "demons" became more and more common over time.
