Mr. Brown was the editor of Midvale's Daily Star newspaper. When he saw Harry Kane—actually the Eternal Makkari, who at the time went by the vigilante name Hurricane—in action, defeating a racketeering gang with his powers, he introduced him to the Daily Star's owner, John Smithers, with the intention of hiring him. When Harry Kane began investigating the racket, he discovered that Smither himself was the racketeer's leader, whom he then confronted with his gang, resulting in Smithers' death when he fell into the newspaper's presses.[1]
