Synopsis for "Man w/o Fear"
Daredevil perches precariously outside a window of the main building of The Cloisters, taking in the smells and sounds of a wedding in progress between the children of two New York organized crime families. He has heard rumors that someone here is going to be the target of a hit. As the bride walks down the aisle, Daredevil senses a slight shift in the acoustics of the venue. A portal has opened at the feet of the flower girl. The Spot's hand emerges and Daredevil realizes he is dealing with an attempted kidnapping. Before The Spot can grasp the girl’s ankle, Daredevil swoops in, grabs the girl, and jumps away.
As Daredevil leaps around the venue fighting off The Spot’s attacks from all sides, he tells the gathered crime families that The Spot is working with an inside man. A guest’s heart rate spikes and Daredevil calls out the culprit, Sal Donoratti. Sal panics and confesses to the crowd, but before he can reveal anything else, a portal opens in his chest. The Spot’s hands come through, grab Sal by the head, and break his neck. Daredevil hands the child off to the groom and follows The Spot into one of his open portals. The foiled kidnapping makes the front page of the next morning’s Daily Bugle.
The next day, Matt Murdock is forced to deal with a world that knows his secret identity, despite every denial he makes. He shoots down questions about his presumed activities as Daredevil from the owner of the coffee cart outside the courthouse and a throng of reporters inside it, before having accusations lobbed at him from opposing counsel in the police brutality trial he and his partner, Foggy Nelson, have taken on. Eventually, the judge in the case orders a continuance and recommends that Matt and Foggy’s client, Ahmed Jobrani, finds new attorneys. Deflated, Matt tells Jobrani he’ll refer him to another lawyer.
Later, Matt is taking some time to himself on the roof of his office building when he is joined by the new Assistant District Attorney, Kirsten McDuffie. She warns him that every lawyer he faces is going to try using his dual identities against him in court. Matt again denies he is Daredevil, but McDuffie is not convinced. She says he should consider staying away from the courtroom lest he become a liability to all of his clients. McDuffie then mentions that no one before Matt and Foggy would take Jobrani’s case despite the mountain of evidence in his favor. She not-so-subtly suggests something sinister is at play, and that someone like Daredevil might want to investigate. After McDuffie leaves, Matt calls Foggy and tells him not to refer Jobrani to another attorney just yet. Then he leaps off the roof and Daredevil goes to work.
As Daredevil patrols the city pondering the case, he realizes he is being followed. His pursuer shoots projectiles into the air that explode, raining down “chaff” that counteracts Daredevil’s radar sense. Fully blinded from his surroundings, Daredevil picks up the vague impression of an object coming towards him, but is unable to pinpoint Captain America's shield as it flies at his head from behind.
